Re: UVA Class of 2017
I'm getting in sometime Thursday late morning/early afternoon before registration. The current student I'm in touch with is trying to get a group together at the Virginian Thursday night after the Monticello tours...I'm planning to go. Anybody else figured out pre/post plans?

I'll just be there for the day on Friday, but I'm excited!
Also, still inquiry access denied. Gah.

Getting in late Thursday night. Hoping to not be too exhausted when I get in and head somewhere for a drink. No specific plans yet.

I'll be there - getting in Thursday night (probably late). That travel stipend definitely helps!

If anybody wants to get a group together for Friday PM me and we can set something up. I live nearby, but I will only be in C-Ville on Friday. I'm available over the weekend too, but I doubt anyone will still be here. Hopefully, a few of us can get together!

Although I hope for the very best...I am going to say Elite 8. In UVA sports, success is a bonus. The best parts of our athletics revolve around partying and school spirit.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
Hi guys!
Sorry if this is a basic question, but have any of you guys been awarded scholarships as well as need-based aid? I received a pretty generous scholarship offer a few weeks ago in that wave of offers, but received no word on need-based aid. Does this mean that my scholarship is all I am going to get?

Hey everyone.. has anyone been emailed by on campus clubs for any activities after hours? Was invited to dinner by one club on Friday and accepted the offer based on the fact it might allow me an opportunity to get a better feel for the school and its students. Anyone have any other 'unofficial' plans?

If they can make it past Izzo and Michigan St, then I think the Final 4. I really wish Open House wasn't during the second round of the tourney. I may have to skip a few sessions.Daily_Double wrote:Bracket Season boys. How far will UVA go?

Re: UVA Class of 2017
anyone care about the drop in the rankings?
?? UVA is the same; penn has just been killing it||rankings are somewhat subject/arbitrary and there's no substantial reason||rankings fluctuation from year to year is expected/job outcome is unchanged||indicative of trends that are worrisome for incoming 0L's||VA resident enrollment requirement is cumbersome for UVA admissions and harms them in the rankings||7 to 8 does not matter in the slightest ??

I do not think it matters. I doubt employers will move away from UVA OCI because it dropped one spot.charlie.black wrote:anyone care about the drop in the rankings?

Re: UVA Class of 2017
FYI for all of those interested in scholarship negotiation, I was not successful, but impressed with how UVA handled it. I emailed the financial aid office very politely and detailed my offers (including more $$ from higher ranked school) and they forwarded my email to Dean Richard. She then emailed me asking her to call her, and she was very friendly and basically said that their process takes everything into account, including your own financial situation, and b/c of that, some people w/ higher numbers get less than people with lower ones--it's a truly holistic process. She also said that because UVA tries to give $$ to as many applicants as possible, many people tend to get less money than from other schools. She was super friendly, but said that I should assume that whatever offer I have from them now is most likely my final offer. Unfortunately, that probably means I won't be headed to Cville.
Obviously I'm guessing named schollies like Dillard are a different story though and not dependent on your finances.

Thanks. I suspect the same thing for me too without an increase.kathj06 wrote:FYI for all of those interested in scholarship negotiation, I was not successful, but impressed with how UVA handled it. Re: UVA Class of 2017
Does anyone know the exact specific deadline for filing FASFA and Need Access? The website has a "Suggested filing date" but my parents file a foreign tax return whose dates do not coincide with American tax returns. To be more specific, the foreign tax return date is after April, I believe it starts in the beginning of May.
Thus, I was wondering what are the exact deadlines for FASFA and Need Access?
Here's some info I've gotten for me/others to see:
This is what Need Access says on their website:
"Deadlines for completing your Need Access Application are set by your school. Applications can be submitted to Need Access until June 30th (the end of the academic year). For example, if you are applying for financial aid to cover the 2014–2015 academic year, your application can be submitted to Need Access until June 30, 2015. "
That's a very generous timeline.
This is what FASFA says on their website:
Federal Deadline - "Online applications must be submitted by midnight Central Time, June 30, 2015.
Any corrections or updates must be submitted by midnight Central Time, September 19, 2015."
Followed with: "Check with the college(s) you are interested in attending. You may also want to ask your college about its definition of an application deadline - whether it is the date the college receives your FAFSA, or the date your FAFSA is processed."
