Just got an email putting me on a housing wait list. I was really hoping to get assigned to Hughes. Hoping I can still pick up a seat at some point. In fairness I haven't deposited yet so I don't know if that hurt my chances or not.

I'm going to call today hoping that'll expedite the financial aid decision, how do I politely tell them to hurry up?

Not too long. I applied mid january, was admitted the last day of march and turned in my financial aid apps the next day. They said they'd hopefully have a decision early last week, but nothing thus far. Obviously the system wide deposit deadline is pretty much March 1st, and if I want any hope for negotiations I'll need it soon.

Just got my offer. 150K. I was about to withdraw from Cornell, but this is a lot to consider...

Same exact thing happened to me late last week. I am completely humbled and grateful for the offer, but I did not expect nearly that big of a number. Because of my assumption that my maximum possible offer would be much less than $150k, I had pretty much made up my mind where I was going for a couple of weeks. The offer changed everything last minute and now I have a real decision to make after weeks of thinking my decision was made and all that was left was negotiations to try and get a few more bucks.

Congrats! Can I ask-- did they give you your offer on the phone when you called to check on the status of your scholly, or did they already have it ready for you? Do you think calling to check on it helped?

Yeah, not really sure. I emailed a couple/few times over the course of a week and a half, the fact that I had to do it more than once lends itself to the theory that it does not help too much, but others have said other things, idk.

If anyone is seriously thinking about leasing in Collegetown Terrace shoot me a PM. (not because i have something to say that will deter you at all)

EDIT: below is a post I made on CTT a while ago. If, after reading this, you have questions and/or are still seriously considering living there, PM me.

To begin, here's their (new) website that gives a decent representation of what to offer. http://collegetownterraceithaca.com/bui ... e.php?id=1

My general advice is if you're cool doing a 2BR, you should. It'd run you each ~1k and you get a ton of space for that value. Second, mostly everything up here is egregiously expensive if you live near the law school. That said, studios run from 1200-1600. 1BR from 1400-1800. 2BR for 1800-~2200. Not really sure. Like I said, I think there's room to negotiate prices because they are cutting their prices because they can't fill the rooms and they're opening a new apartment.

Also, they have new mini studios (kitchenette, no laundry in room) at around ~250sq ft for sub 1k that actually look pretty nice,

About getting to school. It's a 10-15 min walk (up a hill). However, there is a shuttle that everyone takes. It picks up in two locations and drops off in two locations (law school, hotel school). The shuttle starts at 7:30 and runs every twenty minutes until 12:30 (so every :10, :30, :50). It then has pick ups at like 1255, 130, 2xx.. And becomes more regular from 3-5. I never take it in the afternoon.

It takes 3-5 minutes to get to school that way. There is also Ithaca TCAT busses that have a stop across the street that take an equal amount of time and are equally convenient. Remember, all 1L's get a free year of TCAT bus usage.

Sorry for rant. Hope that helps.

I got my finaid response, finally. The dean said they can't offer any more at the moment, but I expected that to be the response since my original offer was much better than I expected. Regardless, I've decided to attend Cornell and officially bring an end to my eight month cycle!

I'm still waiting for my negotiation response. Hopefully it will come soon. The not knowing is far more annoying than anything else. I'm also somewhat expecting them to decline my request, but you never know.

In any case, congrats on your decision!

After quite an intense decision making process, I officially declined my offer at Cornell. Hopefully the money they offered me makes it way some of you TLSers! Good luck in Ithaca everyone!

I just sent an email letting them know that I won't be living in Hughes next year so there should be a spot opening up for one of you guys soon.

Also, is anyone else entertained by the level of social awkwardness already being displayed in the FB group?

Lol, you really think it's that bad? Trust me some others are way worse (looking at you Columbia).

What made you pull out of Hughes? I'm on the WL there and hope I get a spot, just because I don't have time to apt hunt.

Haha honestly I just think I'm better off mental health-wise not living in the law school, with five other law students. Figure I'm probably gonna be lawed out some days.

And no the FB isn't really that bad, I just think the kid commenting on everyone's post talking about deferring is pretty great.

For those of you signing leases, what do you plan to do with your places in the summer? Is it easy to sublet in Ithaca?
