Stubbazubba wrote:So sad I can't attend ASW. For any CLS students/alum watching, could you answer a few questions about your student experience for those of us that couldn't make it? The first question may not be generally applicable, but all the rest are:
1) I'm interested in going into government service, and possibly even JAG. Do you know of anyone who has done JAG from Columbia? Do you know what sort of resources Columbia has for this?
2) How do you feel your relationship is with your professors? Can you talk to most of them individually, do they know who you are? How involved are they in your law school experience outside of the classroom?
3) Is there a strong competitive feeling in your classes? What are your relationships with other students at CLS like? Can you get notes and help from others?
4) How many hours per week would you say you are studying/in class? Would you say you had enough free time to keep your sanity your 1L year?
5) How helpful have you felt CLS' career services to be? If you know anyone with PI experience, do they feel the office was helpful, or do most have to rely on other sources?
6) What have your experiences been with CLS alumni? Are most willing or eager to help out students?
7) What's the greatest thing about going to CLS? What's the worst?
TIA!
I would direct you here:

I could answer a few, but you'll get better/more thorough responses posting it for all the current students.

Can we appeal the financial aid Decision (for more money)? Or could you risk losing it all? And how would I go about doing that?

They won't take away the grant they've offered assuming you aren't unbelievably inappropriate. Ask politely and at worst they will politely decline and maintain your current offer.

I overslept and went to NYU early, don't hate me.

There was a lecture on human rights: law, policy, and strategy, but it got canceled. :X
Edit: heard it was canceled from a friend.

Anyone else still waiting on financial aid? Do you think it could hurt to call/email to ask when I can expect to hear from them?

Also me. I got a nice email acknowledging other scholarship offers I sent them, but haven't received my offer from CLS yet. :\

I don't think so. And the finaid guy said at asw they could email offers if you had deadlines.

Assuming sticker, the credited response here is Columbia. Hands down.
What if there's a 20k difference? All things being equal I'd choose columbia...you think that difference is negligible in the grand scheme of things?

As a general FYI, yesterday at the ASW financial aid presentation the director said he "hoped" to be sending out a batch of scholly decisions today (Friday) via snail mail.

Does anyone have experience with I-House? Is this a viable option (even for US students)?

Received my financial aid package, certainly not too shabby considering what I consider others are probably getting. If I could get just a little more I'd definitely bite. My parents however, aren't nearly as thrilled...they are traumatizing me with regards to this prospective debt.

My parents are the exact opposite. "You're young, everyone has to take out debt for cars, houses, tuition. Don't let that bother you."

People, like my parents, who play down debt are out of their fucking minds.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
