Re: Cornell Class of 2017
updates I have (finally) received my finaid award, and it would be semi decent if not for the fact that Cornell tuition is absolutely insane. I was admitted mid Feb.

Cornell offered 20k/year, which is less than a higher ranked school. Not sure if I should negotiate or withdraw...

How do you request a roommate and NOT get that roommate =/
EDIT: Also trying to figure out whether or not Hughes is worth the convenience.

For those who have their Hughes assignment, when did you fill out your applications for housing? I still haven't gotten mine yet.

Yikes. Is there any room left in Hughes? I'm waiting for a response on more $$$ from Cornell but this is making me antsy. Can we only apply for housing after the first deposit has been received?

All I want is for Cornell to give me an initial finaid offer, and for that offer to be unstoppable and brilliant. That's all.

The application has been open for a while. I put the link to the housing portal in the OP months ago.Thiggs wrote:For those who have their Hughes assignment, when did you fill out your applications for housing? I still haven't gotten mine yet.

You put too much faith in the Housing Office.deputydog wrote:I dont know man. The exact same thing happened to me.SteelPenguin wrote:How do you request a roommate and NOT get that roommate =/
FWIW, two people can switch rooms if they both consent and contact Missy Riker in Housing. So you can ask your roommate(s) if they wouldn't mind switching with your friend. It might involve a switch in room sizes, though.

The housing portal keeps trying to sign me up for undergrad housing since I'm still technically a UG here. Unbelievable.Lavitz wrote:King Cayuga wrote:Yikes. Is there any room left in Hughes? But you can only receive an assignment after the deposit has been received.

That doesn't make sense. You're probably going to need to call/e-mail housing if it doesn't work.

Had no idea about the housing portal and app being availible prior to depositing. Thanks Lavitz glad someone's on top of things 8
edit: For those that have already made a deposit what type of confirmation have you received?

Do we receive the Cornell Net ID only after we pay the deposits? My understanding is that u need a NET ID to apply for Hughe's? So i guess you can only apply for housing after u pay the deposits?
Also,maybe Lavitz can help anwer this question for me...I think I might have to end up requesting a deferral...If I do, do you think I will still be able to get the NET ID now, even though I won't technically be a Cornell student until next Fall? ;;

Interesting, I got an assignment to Hughes Hall despite the fact that I haven't deposited. I think I will choose to live off-campus if I commit to Cornell anyway, so another spot for you guys!

How did u apply for housing? Did you get the Cornell Net ID, even though you haven't deposited? Did u contact the Cornell IT office for the Net ID to apply, or did they email it to you along with the acceptance letter or sth?? Cuz i haven't deposited yet, but I haven't gotten any Net ID or student ID information, and I was kinda wondering about that, cuz most other schools I got accepted to sent me the Student ID # along with the acceptance package...Yea All Right wrote:Interesting, I got an assignment to Hughes Hall despite the fact that I haven't deposited. Try going here (http://living.sas.cornell.edu/live/apply/apply.cfm) and select the correct option under "Graduate & professional students," should be the one for students who don't have a Cornell NetID nor a username and password.krnpridejk wrote:How did u apply for housing? No, you're right. You don't need a NetID to apply for housing. I'm surprised you got an assignment without depositing though.Yea All Right wrote:Try going here (http://living.sas.cornell.edu/live/apply/apply.cfm) and select the correct option under "Graduate & professional students," should be the one for students who don't have a Cornell NetID nor a username and password.krnpridejk wrote:How did u apply for housing? Admissions said they'll finally have my aid package together early this week. Hopefully I'll be able commit to Cornell soon.

Hopefully they'll get back to me about my revised offer by then as well. Does anyone think depositing now will make Admissions decide not to raise their offer to me?mt2165 wrote:Admissions said they'll finally have my aid package together early this week.
