FWIW, I never received my admitted students handbook last year. Must've gotten lost in the mail.OliveBC wrote:so happy to be checking in here can't wait for that beautiful red book

Checking in! I'm very excited and strongly considering Cornell.
EDIT: Where is a good place for 1L's to live that is close to the law school, surrounded by peers, and not too expensive?

Have any of you already made hotel reservations? I'm just looking for something convenient, cheap, and not too sketchy Also if there are any girls out there planning on the first ASD that might want to share a room to save money you should pm me, I don't snorevicpin5190 wrote:masked kavana wrote:Has anyone applied for an ASD subsidy?
What day are you planning to go?
I applied and was given $225 that'll come in the form of a visa gift card when i arrive. I'm at this point planning on going to the March one (I really want to get in earlier so I can talk to a finaid officer to discuss how to best finance this, what opportunities exist, etc., before the award decisions come out).

most likely going to the april ASW - look forward to seeing ppl there!
seconding the earlier question about housing - looking into hughes hall. anyone seen the rooms? leaning towards the smaller one since it's the cheapest, but not sure if it's unbearably small...

Don't know what you'd consider unbearable. According to page 11 of the housing brochure, small is supposed to be 114-136 sq. feet, regular is 137-167, large is 168-189, and x-large is 190-209. I think the picture on page 7 is of a small room, but I'm not sure. You'll get a tour at ASW, but they may only show you an x-large.fwang wrote:most likely going to the april ASW - look forward to seeing ppl there!

I live in a regular. Here are some pics for reference:

Re: Cornell Class of 2017
I'm sure we would have heard if anyone received one. I think that if they don't come out soon, they'll likely just award them randomly when all the other scholarships come out in March. We have a new Financial Aid Director, so that may explain the different process this year.rackylo wrote:Long time lurker checking in.

Would you say the pricing of Hughes Hall is reasonable compared to off-campus housing options?

Re: Cornell Class of 2017
You're going to be in Hughes for 8 months out of the year, and a regular is about 8K, so it's about 1K/month--a bit more if you pick the larger rooms. I'm living < 5 minutes down the hill next year and I'm paying 1K/month for a nice studio. Everything gets more expensive the closer you get to the law school. But I think if you find roommates, you can definitely find a place fairly close to the law school and still pay less than in Hughes. I know quite a few Hughes people are rooming together in collegetown next year and paying only 700/month.Yea All Right wrote:Would you say the pricing of Hughes Hall is reasonable compared to off-campus housing options?
Personally, I felt Hughes was worth it to be adjacent to the law school since it was a pretty bad winter this year. Plus living with 40+ other law students was a plus for me for the communal value, whereas it may be a con for others to be surrounded by law students the whole time. So if you want to live alone and don't mind walking a bit to get to class, then yeah, you should be able to find something for roughly the same price as Hughes. And if you don't mind roommates, but would rather walk a bit to save money, then you can find something cheaper that's still not too far. The further you're willing to walk/bus, the more you can save.
Lastly, if you're sure you won't be in Ithaca over 1L summer (the vast majority obviously don't stay here, but there are a few decent gigs in Ithaca), Hughes can be good because you don't have to worry about subletting.

Does anyone have hotel recommendations for ASW?

Yes, Country Inn & Suites - great customer review ratings across the board - great work out facilities, pool etc. and offers a free shuttle to and from the airport on demand - pretty sweet deal for just $70/night on hotels.com (marked down from $117 on other sites) i'm psyched

How quickly does housing in Hughes go? Should I apply now to make sure I get a spot even if I'm not positive yet that I'm going to end up at Cornell?
