$1300 for SHARED housing, $1800 for your own place. Can't believe it costs that much to share an apartment, I reallllly don't want to share an apartment :/

Does anyone know if it's possible to have a cat in one of the shared apartments, or do I have to get a single?moopness wrote:Well, this is what I was looking at http://facilities.columbia.edu/housing/ ... ty-housingFOM wrote:Mind sharing that link?papercut wrote:Do you know a ballpark figure for these?moopness wrote: There are but they are obscenely expensive.

Taking the Megabus up from Union Station Tuesday night. Hate taking it at night, but the traffic during the day isn't worth it. Plus Amtrak is ridiculously expensive.

Unspoken/unwritten rule is that if your roommates don't complain and you're in an unfurnished place, no one cares about pets (provided you're not in Lenfest/Lionsgate, which are newer and nicer and they tend to be more strict about). I just emailed my roommates as soon as I got their info to make sure they were okay with it. Allergies aside, it seems like most people relish the opportunity to have a pet without any of the responsibilities.papercut wrote:Does anyone know if it's possible to have a cat in one of the shared apartments, or do I have to get a single?moopness wrote: Well, this is what I was looking at http://facilities.columbia.edu/housing/ ... ty-housing

Also I pay $1000 for a shared room in a large 3 bedroom, which is common, so $1300 is definitely on the high side for UAH (maybe that's closer to what you'd pay in law school housing), and sharing an apartment has worked out fine for me so far. I understand if you're older and have lived on your own for a while, but sharing an apartment is not that big of a deal. These aren't dorms, they are regular, average-sized apartments that are similar or better than how most people in Manhattan live.

I'm wondering whether any of the listed students on the ASW are still available to host people...Not really looking forward to spending $200/night for a hotel...

Seems better than the NYU one - it was incredibly long.kitkat288 wrote:Anddddd now I have homework for the ASW :/
Has anyone heard anything about particular classes that would be the best to visit here? It's a fairly long list of options.

I doubt this, especially as everyone has deadlines approaching, and this is just how they operate.mt2165 wrote:Hopefully I'll be able to request it via email I have important deadlines approaching.AuctionTheory wrote:Got my fin aid offer. Not a lot but hopefully I will be able to negotiate.

You're probably right. I guess some real wishful thinking, though my deadlines are really pretty imminent. Oh well I'll just suck it up lolbarrelofmonkeys wrote:I doubt this, especially as everyone has deadlines approaching, and this is just how they operate.mt2165 wrote:Hopefully I'll be able to request it via email I have important deadlines approaching.AuctionTheory wrote:Got my fin aid offer. I would call them and ask. The worst thing that could happen is that they say no.mt2165 wrote:You're probably right. I've already told my roommate if I get the letter while at ASW he can open it and tell me how much it is, or else I'm sure I'll go crazy.
Hopefully they don't take too long to come back with appeals - hoping to negotiate it up with my NYU offer (as futile as that may be).

Does anyone know if an NYU offer is a good indication of what one might receive from CLS, at least initially? Is CLS typically less generous? I would think yes on both accounts but wondering if there is any info from last cycle to back it up.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
It's hard to say, but I think CLS would likely be more generous than NYU if you have the numbers for a scholly. The reason being that CLS has a much bigger endowment. I know that my offer from CLS (90K) was significantly higher than my NYU offer (62.5K). That said, I'll get back to you should my appeal go through.jdapplicant wrote:Does anyone know if an NYU offer is a good indication of what one might receive from CLS, at least initially? Re: Columbia Class of 2017
I'm doing the uber cheap route as well- Bolt Bus up to NY Tuesday afternoon, and crashing with a friend. There weren't any routes on any of the bus lines that worked with my work schedule and my friend's schedule aside from leaving mid-day. Definitely worried about traffic but I think better than the crazy early Wednesday AM options. I'm going to have to miss part of the reception on Thursday to make it to the departure point in time.AdInfinitum wrote:Taking the Megabus up from Union Station Tuesday night. On that note, I would be delighted to meet any of y'all who will be there!

On a related note, financial aid awards have to be coming out this week, right?

I called to check on my FA application because I have some enrollment deadlines coming up. They said when they make a decision about my package they'll let me know. So it sounds like they haven't finalized things yet. I submitted my info right around the deadline.mt2165 wrote:Yeah curious...any non-international people gotten financial aid awards yet?Humbert Humbert wrote:Pumped for ASD's this week.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
I received my financial aid award by mail today (not international).
Though I'm fairly happy with it, I would love to see it go a little higher. When do you think the best time to send a negotiation email would be? Immediately, or closer to their deadline?
Thanks!!

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Just got my fin aid info as well - is there a consensus about whether this includes unofficial merit? I remember reading some debate about it in this thread, but I can't find the posts.
...basically I'm trying to figure out if they're open to negotiation (on the basis of my questionable merits) or if it's solely a reflection of the financial situation.
[accepted in late Jan, submitted fin aid docs in mid Feb]
