Humidity, now that's something I'm familiar with.
I always assumed/heard that Houston was hotter than Austin. Interesting.

Highly accurate scientific experiment right here.cannibal ox wrote:Humidity, now that's something I'm familiar with.

Austin 5 day: 75, 81, 88, 90, 93
Houston "": 75, 75, 82, 84, 88, 86
Austin is usually hotter than Houston rarely does Houston get above 99, quite often austin does. People just hate the humidity.

Re: Texas Class of 2017
Austin might "technically" be hotter than Houston if you use temperature as your gauge but if you're basing it off of "This is hell on earth" then during the summer I'll take 100 degrees in Austin over 95 degrees in Houston 10 times out of 10. The humidity in Houston is just brutal.cannibal ox wrote:Humidity, now that's something I'm familiar with.

I'm from around Houston, so I guess that's just what I'm used to. Are we including Mosquitos in this hell on hearth, cause that severely worsens Houston.BigZuck wrote:Austin might "technically" be hotter than Houston if you use temperature as your gauge but if you're basing it off of "This is hell on earth" then during the summer I'll take 100 degrees in Austin over 95 degrees in Houston 10 times out of 10. I'm from a more humid area than dallas, about 1.5 hours east, and Dallas really is my favorite city during the summer.cannibal ox wrote:Where does Dallas fall on your scale of suffering?

Dallas, to me, has always appeared to be extremely boring. Counter thoughts?Attax wrote:I'm from a more humid area than dallas, about 1.5 hours east, and Dallas really is my favorite city during the summer.cannibal ox wrote:Where does Dallas fall on your scale of suffering?

Mildly related: on my visit, the person I was staying with said they were going to "San Antone" for the day. Is that the local way of describing "San Antonio," or is it a new place I am unaware of?

All right, so we have "Guadalupe" as "Gwad-a-loop," "San Jancinto" as "San Ga-sent-oh," and San Antone. Any other glaring Austin things that I'll say that will make me sound like an idiot/tourist?

I personally don't say any of those and most people don't, though I do have a very prominent Texas accent.Will_McAvoy wrote:Oh yes.TheWalrus wrote:You're gonna have fun with Texas slang.Will_McAvoy wrote:Mildly related: on my visit, the person I was staying with said they were going to "San Antone" for the day. I mean this as nice as possible, but you must not know many people. I know very few people that actually pronounce it as Guadalupe. Although San Antone isn't as common.TheWalrus wrote:I personally don't say any of those and most people don't, though I do have a very prominent Texas accent.Will_McAvoy wrote:Oh yes.TheWalrus wrote:You're gonna have fun with Texas slang.Will_McAvoy wrote:Mildly related: on my visit, the person I was staying with said they were going to "San Antone" for the day. I'm on permanent wingman status, so I don't mind huge embarrassing pickup failures as much, but this is helpful. Nothing turns off a drunk woman like using hte formal name for a highway.

I'll add "San Jac" as a commonly used other name for San Jacinto.Attax wrote: I mean this as nice as possible, but you must not know many people. I know very few people that actually pronounce it as Guadalupe. Although San Antone isn't as common.

I think it would also be useful to define the two primary districts on 6th Street - (1) West 6th (west of Lavaca) , (2) Dirty Six (east of Lavaca, west of 35). The names are self-explanatory..

Good point, I always used san jac to refer to the dorm rather than the street, so I'll add that.Cactus wrote:

West 6th = I've never been
East 6th = more hipster, quieter, and more divey.
