Hopefully. The area is expecting heavy snow though. So administrative offices could be closing.angels2fly wrote:$$ tomorrow?

From the UVA Law Financial Aid Facebook page...
Aurgh!Incoming 1L students: We are again enjoying a "weather event" on the east coast with ice and snow, and that will delay our financial aid awarding schedule. The university is closed today. If we can get back in the office tomorrow, we anticipate moving forward with awarding at that time. We will post updates here. We apologize for the delay, and if you have a snow picture to share, post it here!

So sorry if this has already been answered but do they award scholarships via email or regular mailing only?

I was told that award notices would a arrive via email. The timeline says letter, but I'm guessing email.Jessasaurus wrote:So sorry if this has already been answered but do they award scholarships via email or regular mailing only?

It seems like something happens with the weather every time something important is about to be released. Damn you, climate change!rachellen wrote:From the UVA Law Financial Aid Facebook page...

Did forms have to be completed by the deadline for merit too? I'm embarrassed to admit that I missed the initial deadline for needaccess/fafsa

+1. In my case, I got FAFSA in by the deadline but getting my parent to fill out the parental section on NeedAccess took longer.SteelPenguin wrote:Did forms have to be completed by the deadline for merit too? I'm embarrassed to admit that I missed the initial deadline for needaccess/fafsa

Any insight into the nature of the financial aid deadline? Was it a priority deadline? Also was it required for any kind of aid or only need based aid?

Re: UVA Class of 2017
Nevermind. Easily found the answer online: A number of merit-only scholarships are awarded to entering students each year. The value of merit scholarships may range from $5,000 to full tuition. All admitted applicants will be considered for merit-based scholarships, and no separate application is required.albs18 wrote:Any insight into the nature of the financial aid deadline? Re: UVA Class of 2017
Did anyone else notice that the email said that "financial aid awards" will go out today/tomorrow? To me, financial aid means need-based money, not scholarships. Aid implies assistance being given to one who needs it. Scholarships aren't assistance given to those in need--they're something given to you because the school wants you to come.
Am I reading too much into that? Are we sure that scholarships are going out at this time and not later (or, please don't let this be the case, have already gone out)?

Re: UVA Class of 2017
We should find out soon enough, but I took the email to be referring to scholarships. This is partially based on the fact that several other schools seem to be releasing their awards around this time. I heard from BC yesterday and am anticipating decisions from NU, GULC, Cornell, and UVA this week or early next week.Sojourner2 wrote:Did anyone else notice that the email said that "financial aid awards" will go out today/tomorrow? I hope you're right.
BC is an interesting choice--its seems like a bit of an outlier from the other schools you listed. Are you from Boston, or do you want to practice there? I'm just curious because I'm in the throes of the decision-making process and am literally tearing out my hair every day trying to make a decision. Just interested what other people are thinking.

Yeah - reading too much into it. Financial Aid, is providing aid to you financially. There is need-based aid and merit-based aid. Both are financial aid. However, when I contacted admissions regarding the requirement to fill out the forms in order to hear about merit-based $$$ they informed me that it is a combined process where need based and merit based are combined together and that I needed to submit FASFA and NA ASAP. Just a heads up for those who haven't completed those forms. It seems many of us are getting conflicting answers on this.kemosabe wrote:We should find out soon enough, but I took the email to be referring to scholarships. I agree that they are giving out conflicting answers on this. When I first contacted them over the phone, I very clearly asked if I needed to complete Need Access to be considered for a merit scholarship and they said YES. On the website, through emails and other people's reports, however, it looks like that may not be the case.Yeah - reading too much into it. Financial Aid, is providing aid to you financially. My hunch is that you do not need to complete need access to be considered for a merit scholarship, BUT, the school wants to collect as much financial data as possible and has an incentive to get as many people to complete need access as possible and is therefore dispersing conflicting (and misleading?) information.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
I have no idea. I guess we will find out soon, but who knows mine may be delayed since I was initially under the impression that I did not need to complete those two forms for merit-based consideration and I could do it after. I guess those who didn't file FASFA and Need Access will be able to tell us if they get any news with those who did file (before 02/14/14). I sure hope they don't take financials into consideration when deciding merit-based, that would be operating in bad faith lol.GeneralFile(s) wrote:I agree that they are giving out conflicting answers on this. Re: UVA Class of 2017
We may get financial aid emails today, late today even.
"Unfortunately, because of the weather, we are not able to get the first batch of financial aid awards out today, as we had planned. We hope to get awards out, via email, late tomorrow or Wednesday. Please watch for an email from the UVA Law Financial Aid Office. We sincerely apologize for this delay. "
