Anyone else considering the joint JD/MBA? What other options are you looking at, and what do you think about the program in general? It's always been one of my top choices, but even with the Butler at CLS I'm experiencing some serious sticker shock.

If you were able to get a butler at CLS you should be able to get good scholly money at a school like Penn or Northwestern, where that mba would be much more valuable too.kartelite wrote:Anyone else considering the joint JD/MBA? What makes you say this? I don't think jd/mba is necessary from CLS for most careers, but the bolded isn't accurate for any employers I've heard of. If you mean the 3-yr composite programs, that is an asset.moopness wrote:If you were able to get a butler at CLS you should be able to get good scholly money at a school like Penn or Northwestern, where that mba would be much more valuable too.kartelite wrote:Anyone else considering the joint JD/MBA? Do you mean sticker at the 4th yr of the program? What is your WE like and what do you hope to use the jd/mba to get into? I don't think it's worth a year of foregone income just to go to a large law firm.kartelite wrote:Anyone else considering the joint JD/MBA? Re: Columbia Class of 2017
I honestly just figured that an MBA from Wharton or Northwestern would be more highly regarded and open up more potential employment opportunities than an MBA from Columbia, but I could be mistaken. I'm very ignorant when it comes to anything business school related.jbagelboy wrote:What makes you say this? I always find it interesting how TLS posters do a great job with highlighting law school employment outcomes over lay perceptions, but fail to extend the same rational approach to other graduate programs like med school or bschool.manu6926 wrote:Wharton is better than Columbia's business school though the difference is small. See: http://www8.gsb.columbia.edu/recruiters ... port13.pdf

The schools present salary and employment information differently, but if you break it down by industry % and match apples to apples it's basically a wash. Recruiting tends to be even across the M7, with SBS as maybe one exception.

Does anyone know whether you have to turn in your 2013 tax forms in order to get a financial aid/ scholarship award stipulation? That is for those of us who weren't offered Butlers or Hamiltons with our acceptances? I've already done Need Access, FAFSA, and the CLS questionnaire.

Thanks, good to know. But I think Wharton vs Columbia is kind of like HLS vs CLS. Not much of a difference in terms of employment, but a real gap in terms of reputation.
For what it's worth, here are the reputations of the top 7 - according to the US News:

Doesn't look like there's much of a real gap between HLS and CLS when it comes to reputation among employers.

Is the Dean's Certification form required from all admitted students? I don't even know who the dean at my undergrad is and I don't go there anymore

Did people receive any confirmation that their financial aid docs were received? I sent them via email, and I'm kind of pissed that they haven't sent me any confirmation or some kind of response. I'm sure the office is swamped, but just a simple "We received the docs." would be great.

On last year's thread, it wasn't until April 8ish that TLS people started reporting finaid decisions. I may or may not have a horrible memory though... :/barrelofmonkeys wrote:so like, when does finaid come out?
eta: just looked back... someone last year reported a finaid decision on April 5, but the bulk started to come in April 8+9 via SNAIL MAIL

did not receive a confirmation, but people (in this thread, at least) who were missing documents seemed to have been emailed, so i'm just assuming they received mine...Theopliske8711 wrote:Did people receive any confirmation that their financial aid docs were received? Re: Columbia Class of 2017
I suppose I could've mentioned this earlier, but when I called last week with a financial aid question (I was admitted only recently) I was told that financial aid decisions would be coming out in "early April." Let's hope that means decisions start rolling out prior to the admitted students program on April 9th/10th!

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Based on my conversations with the Fin Aid office, here is what has happened with me. They don't confirm anything until they review your file. You can call and ask, and they can tell you if they received the email (not sure about fax, and post they won't be able to tell you), but they won't tell you if they have everything they need. The reason for this is because I think they don't really know exactly what each person will need to submit until they start reviewing your file. I sent all my stuff in, then I got an email that they needed some additional documentation. I sent it in. They did not confirm that they received what they needed. When I called they said they got the email, but could not confirm if it was specifically what the request was for because the person who answered the phone wasn't the person who was reviewing my file. She said that when they review my file they will let me know if they need anything else (again).Marshmallow wrote:did not receive a confirmation, but people (in this thread, at least) who were missing documents seemed to have been emailed, so i'm just assuming they received mine...Theopliske8711 wrote:Did people receive any confirmation that their financial aid docs were received? This leads me to believe that they basically have everything in a queue. When your file comes up in the queue, they review it. If you have everything they need, nothing happens. They make a decision or put it aside to revisit later, but the next communication you receive will probably be the offer. If they review it and you were missing anything, they will email you and put your file on the side/back in the queue. You send the documents. Then your file goes up for review again when they reach it in the queue or decide to come back to it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

let's hope so. i wanna be able to decide between nyu/cls by the time i return from the ASPs in New York, and financial aid is the deciding factor for me.Hitchensian wrote:I suppose I could've mentioned this earlier, but when I called last week with a financial aid question (I was admitted only recently) I was told that financial aid decisions would be coming out in "early April." Edit: Nvm, according to the admitted student site, it is required in order to matriculate and should be submitted no later than June 15. If you haven't committed to Columbia then I don't think it's required.
So this is probably a stupid question but how are we supposed to submit the financial aid questionnaire?

Is there a particular form we have to give our dean's office or do we just tell them to send it to the office of admissions at Columbia?
