Re: Cornell Class of 2017 (Now with $$$$)
Ended up being in the mail when I got home today, although contrary to others' reports, I'm kind of disappointed with the result. It's actually the lowest offer I've received from any school, but oh well. I'll still be at ASW next weekend, however Cornell being at all competitive in my decision-making process is contingent upon their willingness to negotiate.

Re: Cornell Class of 2017 (Now with $$$$)
Got my financial aid package in the mail today. Submitted FAFSA, Need Access, and Cornell's Financial Aid application at the end of February and sent in tax returns a little more than a week ago.
Offer is about what I would expect for my stats, but I would really like to get more money given that Cornell charges so much for tuition compared to other law schools.

I rushed home to check the mail... Empty, no email, competitive stats. Being on the west coast sucks sometimes.

Does the financial aid office require that copies of tax return documents (i.e. 1040) be submitted for need based consideration? The website and the admission packet are not consistent on this.

I didn't submit a 1040, just a copy of my tax return after completion.albs18 wrote:Does the financial aid office require that copies of tax return documents (i.e. 1040) be submitted for need based consideration? The website and the admission packet are not consistent on this.

I'm going to see if I can negotiate for a little more money, but as a Cornell UG I'm wondering if I should go in person to the financial aid office to do so(after setting up an appointment). Does anyone think this will help, or should I just negotiate via email?

It's much easier to say no via e-mail. I imagine going in person will help, but obviously I have no idea if it will work.King Cayuga wrote:I'm going to see if I can negotiate for a little more money, but as a Cornell UG I'm wondering if I should go in person to the financial aid office to do so(after setting up an appointment). Weird. Did you guys do merit only? This is literally the highest I've received. More than vandy and emory, even. I wonder what is causing all these mixed reports.samoby wrote:+1, lowest offer I've received.Serett wrote:Ended up being in the mail when I got home today, although contrary to others' reports, I'm kind of disappointed with the result. For folks still waiting on $$$: a friend of mine called yesterday and was told that she should expect an offer within 2 to 3 weeks. Both her and I submitted in mid March, before the deadline.

I did merit only. UVA made me do need access and that was my lowest offer. Perhaps Cornell uses need access both ways as well?Serett wrote:I applied for everything, merit + need.SplitMyPants wrote:Weird. Did you guys do merit only? Re: Cornell Class of 2017 (Now with $$$$)
Just an FYI for people, the dates on the scholarship financial aid letters and when it's sent are dated like a week to two weeks before you get it via snail mail. I don't know if this is the case with everyone, but it was with me. I started negotiating the day I got my aid letter and then I got a new one in the mail which was dated like three days after when I had received my first aid letter.
I didn't get my new offer until yesterday though and it was supposedly sent like over a week ago.
I wish everyone good luck!

I had a 6-day difference between the date on the letter and receipt, but good to know, and congrats on the new offer.Bajam wrote:Just an FYI for people, the dates on the scholarship financial aid letters and when it's sent are dated like a week to two weeks before you get it via snail mail. Received my scholarship offer via mail today. I had submitted my financial aid information near the deadline.

...applied for merit based aid (because of my parents' income..and their unwillingness to share their information... I'm completely ineligible for need-based) about 4 days after the deadline. Panic is setting in.

I'm sure you'll be fine. They usually don't care about deadlines. You can just call or e-mail them and ask what's up.kek5250 wrote:...applied for merit based aid (because of my parents' income..and their unwillingness to share their information... oh dear god I'm happy you're awake! I can sleep tonight! Between the cost of moving up there then paying for the damn school, I'm telling you... panic mode.
Any word on who's getting $$? I was at median/75th LSAT, above 75th GPA. Anyone in the same boat care to share their experience? I'm not drowning in debt after undergrad (state school), but these numbers are HORRIFYING once you start crunching them.
Also, and I promise this is the last question, what on earth is the dress code for ASW? I can't figure out what one wears to go to a law school tour then to go out dancing...? Do I wear a loose dress OVER a tight one? then strip down as I run like superman? Maybe tearaway pants? or, if upstate NY is anything like central PA, a parka and earmuffs? Is it appropriate to wear wings of some sort? Perhaps carry a sword and drink out of a hollowed out horn?
sorry, it's late. but any answers anyone can provide would be great! Hope to meet you all soon, you seem like charming people and i'm excited.

for what it's worth, I'm above both 75ths and got 165k.kek5250 wrote:Lavitz wrote:I'm sure you'll be fine. They usually don't care about deadlines. as to all the "what to wear" questions, dress code is probably casual. wear whatever you want, though i'd try, in general, to not look like a slob.
