Re: Michigan Class of 2017
Hi! I am a 2L at Michigan, and I'm going to be subletting my apartment this summer. I love the place and the location (7-8 minute walk to the law school and 5 minutes to downtown AA bars/CVS/coffee shops), which is why I am staying for my 3L year. The place will come fully furnished, with parking, and you can have it through your finals in August. Check out my listing and let me know if you're interested! --LinkRemoved--
If it's still available by the time ASW rolls around and anyone wants to take a look in person-I would be happy to arrange a viewing.

Everything aims to end by 11:30AM so you're fine unless you plan to be hungover from bar night the night before.parvaticatil wrote:Does anyone know how late ASW will go on Saturday the 22nd? Im trying to decide if I need to take off work that night and I leave < 3 hours away.

I received 15k a year and was also still eligible.Lightworks wrote:Just had someone confirm that $18K a year still left them eligible for need aid. Even if it's the max, that's pretty decent.alex.cm wrote:Let's start 10k per year as our over/under. Anyone get offered more than that and also not get the note that need aid is out? anyone get offered less and get the note that they aren't eligible for need based aid?
Any $25K/year people who can weigh in?

Does anyone know how soon after receiving acceptance from the status checker you will find out about scholarships? Is it immediate? Also, scholarship information is available on the accepted students site, correct?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe they said anyone accepted after January would get a decision on scholarship money in around two weeks. And yes, you can see whether you have received a scholarship on the ASW.lsprospect2013 wrote:Does anyone know how soon after receiving acceptance from the status checker you will find out about scholarships? Re: Michigan Class of 2017
For those other summer admits, I just spoke to a financial aid officer and apparently our first semester is charged at 2012-2013 rates rather than the 2013-2014 rates of the second and third semesters of our first year.
Not sure if I'm just really slow on the uptake and everyone already knows this, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning.

Accepted today via status checker and thrilled! I thought I would get a waitlist at best - being from Michigan, U of M is one of my top choices.

Re: Michigan Class of 2017
For anybody with a family that is going to need housing, I just bought a new house in another city and I my current house will be for rent. I likely won't be out of my current house until June 1, so it would be a stretch for a summer starter, but would be very easily doable for a fall starter.
It is a 4 bed, 2 bath home 3 miles from campus and is great for a student with a family, as it is in a very quiet neighborhood with two parks and two schools within walking distance.
Feel free to PM me for more information.

Hey all. I need a little help.
Are you all able to see if you are eligible for need based aid? The ASW website for me does not show any sort of questionnaire. The directions on the fin aid site are also a bit confusing.
Anyone able to access this questionnaire yet? It says it will be available in late February.
Thanks!

Thanks. I saw people posting stuff about being eligible for need based aid etc., but I think they were talking about their award letters mentioning this.Serett wrote:I checked for it this weekend and couldn't find or access anything yet, either.pcthenls wrote:Hey all. I need a little help.

Hey guys, quick question. If you were accepted in the last week, would a scholarship award already be posted on the website if it existed? Thanks!!

Before you are considered for need-based grants, there is a michigan-specific form to fill out which does not appear to be online yet. If you think you may qualify you could call, but its technically still "late february" (the time range when the financial aid page says the form will be available on the accepted students website), and given Michigan's chronic lateness when it comes to getting us forms, etc, I'm not surprised it is not yet available.Marshmallow wrote:apart from need access and fafsa, is there another Michigan specific form to fill out for financial aid? My understanding is that need access is not necessary if you are only applying for loans and not grants, although i could be mistaken on this front.
EDIT: For gradPLUS loans, there's also a request form you need to fill out, instructions here: https://www.law.umich.edu/financialaid/ ... ctions.pdf

Admitted in early January but still have no scholarship information. Is it a foregone conclusion that I won't be receiving any?

np! It's definitely possible it's just not required anymore, but my instinct would be that Michigan is just slowwww. I would be, too, though, given that I hear that with windchill the temp in Ann Arbor is hovering around 3F today... Are we sure that UM is a good choice?!Marshmallow wrote:hey, thanks! since i couldn't find the form/it's not up yet, i thought maybe it was once required but not any more. good to know

Can anyone weigh in on how long about after seeing scholly info on ASW they got mail indicating the scholly amount?
I'm wondering what exactly, "Dean's Scholarships will be finalized by a letter in the mail" means...as in could the tentative amount shown online go down? lol

Hahah, I think all it means is that it's the official notification of the award. You should expect it to indicate exactly what the ASW site does, though.Bajam wrote:Can anyone weigh in on how long about after seeing scholly info on ASW they got mail indicating the scholly amount?

Just spoke to FinAid. The need based evaluation will be posted "in the next week," for those of us waiting.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
