Re: Chicago Law Class of 2017
By the way - I just looked up some more information about the Cafaro scholarship and wanted to post it here for future generations. Looks like they are aiming to provide full tuition to 22 students over 9 years, but I'm not sure how many offers will go out each year.

I'm a little sad that I have to miss half of Thursday's activities and all of Saturday's, but at least I'll have one full day there.

and I finally booked my flight. See you there Scoobers!

Is anyone here doing Columbia-[nyu]-chi back-to-back-(to-back)? I'd love to coordinate flights with people since we'd be getting in so late.

Where is everyone staying for ASW? Anyone familiar with the area know of a cheaper hotel around the area?

I won't be making ASW but will be visiting fairly soon. Expedia brought me to the Lake Shore Hotel which seems pretty reasonable and has a shuttle to the University (although I'm not sure how reliable it is). Anyone know if the affiliated hotels are also at a good price?

I requested to sleep on a current student's floor... like a hobo.KatyMarie wrote:Where is everyone staying for ASW? Anyone familiar with the area know of a cheaper hotel around the area?

Also, if we stay closer to downtown, how easy is it to get back and forth to the university?

I'm doing either this or staying with a friend. I want my lodging to be as free as the pizza.Ricky-Bobby wrote:I requested to sleep on a current student's floor... like a hobo.KatyMarie wrote:Where is everyone staying for ASW? Anyone familiar with the area know of a cheaper hotel around the area?

I was looking into that one too. It seems to be the best bet...but I've never been to Chicago or even close, so I have no clue what/where I should be lookingmnindc wrote:I won't be making ASW but will be visiting fairly soon. Staying with students is highly credited. I really enjoyed the experience last year during the ASW season (especially as compared to the one ASW where I didn't stay with students)Ricky-Bobby wrote:I requested to sleep on a current student's floor... like a hobo.KatyMarie wrote:Where is everyone staying for ASW? Reasons why it's a good idea:
It's free (and usually very comfortable - UChi provides air mattresses and I know several students hosting that are simply using a spare bedroom)
You are often geographically closer to the school than you would be at a hotel
You get to talk with the hosting students in a more casual setting and get actual opinions about culture, job prospects, interests, etc.
You get to see what real housing is like/what the neighborhoods feel like
Seriously, don't feel weird about accepting the offer to stay with students.
Also, don't feel weird if you're bringing an SO to ASW - the school is making a big push this year to make the event a more inclusive experience for SO's (they're also welcome if you decide to stay with students - that was a part of our volunteer signup)

Defs recommend staying with a current student. It's free, you get to find out more info in person, and can check out a potential place to live. I stayed with a student when I went to ASW and will be hosting this year.

I don't mean to be a troll but did anyone else have to decide between Berkeley and Chicago ASW? I need to decide by today and I know the decision seems kind of obvious..but I'm a west coast girl so Berkeley and Chicago are both up there for me. Ahh :/

Yup. Decided on Chicago. I visited Boalt two years ago though (just casually while I was in the area), so that influenced my decision a bit.Pishee77 wrote:I don't mean to be a troll but did anyone else have to decide between Berkeley and Chicago ASW? Has anyone who received a Ruby last week received the follow-up email from Dean Perry yet?

It took a while for the first round to get the second email. Don't worry, it doesn't have a whole lot of information in it.applelover wrote:Has anyone who received a Ruby last week received the follow-up email from Dean Perry yet?

Out of early morning boredom, I counted all the rubies on TLS. So far, they've given out over 20 on TLS alone, so maybe about 30 were given out total already. I wonder if they're going to give any more out after their next admissions round.

Thanks for the response. I was worried for a sec because he made it seem like the email was coming very soon.midwest17 wrote:Not me.applelover wrote:Has anyone who received a Ruby last week received the follow-up email from Dean Perry yet?

Just received. Wow April 15th is going to come fast. I would think they would give you more than 3 days after Admit weekend.
