I'm living in the general area now, and love it!ponyboy7 wrote:Hey has anybody lived or is going to live at the Volume Apartments on Manor? They're maybe not as close to the law school as Hyde Park, but it doesn't seem like too bad of a walk or bike ride. Their floor plans are attracting me.

That's a pretty sweet area actually with several good bars and restaurants, and just as close to the law school as much of Hyde Park.ponyboy7 wrote:Hey has anybody lived or is going to live at the Volume Apartments on Manor? I have some friends that live in that area and seem to like it. There are a few nice coffee shops in that area as well, and you aren't too far from the HEB, which is always a plus.WokeUpInACar wrote:That's a pretty sweet area actually with several good bars and restaurants, and just as close to the law school as much of Hyde Park.ponyboy7 wrote:Hey has anybody lived or is going to live at the Volume Apartments on Manor? Cool. Thanks. I think I'm going to get on their waiting list. I want to live alone for my 1L year and their studios are pretty nice.

There was a review though where someone said they got a roach once. Kind of a deal breaker.ponyboy7 wrote:Cool. Thanks. I think I'm going to get on their waiting list. I want to live alone for my 1L year and their studios are pretty nice.
I'm looking for a pristine/new 1BR that allows cats, is within a few blocks of Congress (ideally the second street area), is under $1100/month, and does not have any reviews that say anything about roaches or scorpions. I'm going to be looking for a really, really long time

If you don't want to see gross bugs, don't move to Texas.Will_McAvoy wrote:There was a review though where someone said they got a roach once. Kind of a deal breaker.ponyboy7 wrote:Cool. Thanks. Not cool Zuck. You've gotta start adding this to your standard "Choosing a Law School" out-of-state responses for UT. I'm cool with being passed over for less qualified in-staters, to a degree, but bugs... How gross are we talking?BigZuck wrote:If you don't want to see gross bugs, don't move to Texas.

You're definitely going to see big roaches when walking around outside, and they might travel in to your apartment. Wasps also exist here, which are new bugs I have never really had to deal with. And the crickets. Oh, the crickets.Will_McAvoy wrote:Not cool Zuck. You've gotta start adding this to your standard "Choosing a Law School" out-of-state responses for UT. Well as long as they're outside I can deal. That's small price to pay for abundant texmex and no snow.

I want to tell you that the Mexican food in Texas is weak sauce and texmex being good is an elaborate flame but I'm afraid of what might happen if I do, so I won't.Will_McAvoy wrote:Well as long as they're outside I can deal. That's small price to pay for abundant texmex and no snow.
Eta: although by and large the food in Austin is incredible and much respect for Texas BBQ.

Lol. If you think Austin's Mexican food is weak sauce, you really need to visit my homeland.BigZuck wrote:I want to tell you that the Mexican food in Texas is weak sauce and texmex being good is an elaborate flame but I'm afraid of what might happen if I do, so I won't.Will_McAvoy wrote:Well as long as they're outside I can deal. And, on BBQ, if anyone wants to do Franklin once we get close to orientation, shoot me a PM. I don't think I'll be able to convince my SO to wait in line that long for it... It can't live up to the hype, but I've still gotta do it.

4gb flash drive with nothing on it, luggage tag, and water bottle. Also included a car decal (but I already bought one).

Texas A&M graduate here, brought a UT-branded coffee traveler into work. Raised a few eyebrows.. I still don't intend on giving notice until June.Will_McAvoy wrote:I wish I was ballsy enough to make that my work water bottle, before giving notice.

Haha I doubt people would be so perceptive. Also, yeah pretty much get used to giant bugs everywhere in Texas. It's really not that bad though.Will_McAvoy wrote:I wish I was ballsy enough to make that my work water bottle, before giving notice.
Do any of you actually bike downtown? It seems incredibly dangerous, but I'd love to hear thoughts. Is biking year round feasible?

I have some friends who get around exclusively by bike and public transportation. Doesn't seem too bad if you can be patient.

It still might be; I haven't submitted my matching request yet (waiting on negotiations with another school).
