Hey has anybody lived or is going to live at the Volume Apartments on Manor? They're maybe not as close to the law school as Hyde Park, but it doesn't seem like too bad of a walk or bike ride. Their floor plans are attracting me.

That's a pretty sweet area actually with several good bars and restaurants, and just as close to the law school as much of Hyde Park.

I have some friends that live in that area and seem to like it. There are a few nice coffee shops in that area as well, and you aren't too far from the HEB, which is always a plus.

There was a review though where someone said they got a roach once. Kind of a deal breaker.

I'm looking for a pristine/new 1BR that allows cats, is within a few blocks of Congress (ideally the second street area), is under $1100/month, and does not have any reviews that say anything about roaches or scorpions. I'm going to be looking for a really, really long time

Not cool Zuck. You've gotta start adding this to your standard "Choosing a Law School" out-of-state responses for UT. I'm cool with being passed over for less qualified in-staters, to a degree, but bugs... How gross are we talking?

You're definitely going to see big roaches when walking around outside, and they might travel in to your apartment. Wasps also exist here, which are new bugs I have never really had to deal with. And the crickets. Oh, the crickets.

I want to tell you that the Mexican food in Texas is weak sauce and texmex being good is an elaborate flame but I'm afraid of what might happen if I do, so I won't.

Eta: although by and large the food in Austin is incredible and much respect for Texas BBQ.

Texas A&M graduate here, brought a UT-branded coffee traveler into work. Raised a few eyebrows.. I still don't intend on giving notice until June.

Haha I doubt people would be so perceptive. Also, yeah pretty much get used to giant bugs everywhere in Texas. It's really not that bad though.

I don't do it but I have friends who bike around town, they say it's not that bad
