oh ma gerd...i just got my financial aid.
Let me get this straight. Need based grant is money I don't have to pay back, right? RIGHT!?!?!

Just received Penn's financial aid decision via email. No mention of merit-based aid. Does this mean I won't be receiving any, or is this round just for need-based aid?

Just got my fin aid offer. Not very happy. They gave me a merit offer of only 15k (total, so 5k/yr) for being a deans fellow. They did give me substantial grant due to need based though.

Soooo I take it merit was included in the package and no mention of merit means I won't be receiving any?

I would like to know this. Mine just says "you did not qualify for need-based aid." It doesn't even acknowledge that there is such a thing as merit-aid. No mention-- means no merit-aid?Leo wrote:Just received Penn's financial aid decision via email. No mention of merit-based aid. Yes to the first portion of your question. Whether you will be receiving any or not, I'm unsure.bananagram wrote:paglababa wrote:Just got my fin aid offer. Not very happy. Anyone else have a portion called "Estimated Total Amount Covered By Family" at the end, which is the balance that the school/fed gov hasn't offered any loans for? How are we supposed to pay that? Private loan?

Have all of you who have received your offers submitted tax forms? Or is this just FAFSA and NeedAccess? I still need to get those yellow tax forms in.

Also, is this need based amount just an estimate that may change if my or my parents' financial circumstances change next year?

I didn't get an offer, but I got an email asking for tax info. It could be because I asked for a non-custodial parent exemption, though. Did anyone else have to provide tax forms?paglababa wrote:No tax forms, just did need access and fafsa.SplitMyPants wrote:Have all of you who have received your offers submitted tax forms? I just called and they said merit-based decisions will be coming later. Today was need-only. Phew.

No because you still would get the email and sign in info telling you what loans you were approved formandyjay11 wrote:darn... if I didnt get an email does that mean I didnt get anything? That's weird.

They did this two years ago too. I got the initial "financial aid decision" and there was nothing, then got another email in like 3 days. Glad to see that Penn's financial aid office still sucks and can't get their messaging straight.

Pretty disappointed with my merit-based offer as well -- Penn is offering less than half of NYU

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
