yay finally got the packet in the mail just now! Noticed the date on the letter is different from the day I got my call. Makes me wonder how they schedule the deliberation meetings with calls

This is basically how I feel as well. I think I'm going to be set on North until ASW when I get to check them out in person.HarvardHopeful wrote:The shared bathrooms isn't really what is turning me off from Gropius, its the twin beds.![]()
I'm fluctuating between north and gropius but I definitely think i'll be living on campus my first year and then moving off campus once I meet people I would like to live with.
Saving the money by living in gropius is tempting me though.

My letter was dated the day before I was called, I rather enjoyed that for some reason.2x2Matrix wrote:yay finally got the packet in the mail just now! Noticed the date on the letter is different from the day I got my call. Makes me wonder how they schedule the deliberation meetings with calls

This is me exactly. All I care about is a clean kitchen and my own bathroom and quiet after 12:00 hahatls2175 wrote:First of all, happy New Year! Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.
In terms of a living situation for next year, I'm looking at off-but-near-campus housing. I also have enough furniture for an entire apartment (except for any roommates bedrooms, of course) and I would prefer to share a kitchen with someone who has the same or similar dietary restrictions as I do.
I share many of kershka's concerns re rent and roommates. I definitely want to be close to the action and community but I would also like to maintain a "sanctuary" if I ever need an escape.

North is where I'm 99% sure I'll live if I attend HLS. I don't mind a shared kitchen, but I need my own bathroom. I know they are renovating it this summer, but I'm wondering to what extent and which rooms. As of right now, the large rooms seem like the only ones with a decent looking bathroom.CyanIdes Of March wrote:This is basically how I feel as well. North is also where I'm interested in living. I'm guessing it's going to be pretty tough to grab a spot there. Here's hoping we all get early time slots in the housing lottery!

Lol if I don't get north, I don't know what I'll do. There's no way I'm willing to do communal showers.TheMostDangerousLG wrote:North is also where I'm interested in living. If I don't get North I'll probably go the Off-Campus apartment route.

Maybe it's just that I'm not far removed from college, but I would prefer to save the money at Gropius than live in North. That said, I'm in all likelihood living off campus. The limited research I've done makes me think it'll be about 1500 for a 1 bedroom apt.

About how far away from campus were those ~1500 1 bedrooms? I am a bit behind on my housing research.Sourrudedude wrote:Maybe it's just that I'm not far removed from college, but I would prefer to save the money at Gropius than live in North. Please God FSU. Can't stand the SEC. Of course, we just showed them how it's done a few days ago...Poison wrote:FSU ... but I had Stanford winning the Rose Bowl, so who knows.The-Specs wrote:Auburn or FSU?

Has anyone who sent an email to the admitted students "1L2B" email during the holidays gotten a response? I sent in a decently important question about 13 days ago and have heard nada.

I haven't but keep in mind that Boston just got bombarded with snow. Most of the Northeast isn't even going outside for non-necessities because the windchill is too dangerous for extended periods of time (I think we were told not to be outside for more than 10 minutes). And the entire campus was shut down last Friday. That in combination with the limited holiday hours has probably contributed to the wait.Nonconsecutive wrote:Has anyone who sent an email to the admitted students "1L2B" email during the holidays gotten a response? Is your email time-sensitive? If not, I'd give it a few more days at least before you try again.

I very much wish I was blissfully unaware of all the snow that just moved across the country, but the -32F weather outside is hard to miss.kershka wrote:I haven't but keep in mind that Boston just got bombarded with snow. But really, layering is key. It's funny how the dress code in offices changes during this season. Also, hot beverages. So many hot beverages.

This is very credited, as is layers. At a point though its just hard to insulate yourself for extended periods of cold. Earlier today I was trying to bust open my frozen car door and even with three pairs of good gloves on I think my hands began the process of dying.kershka wrote:So many hot beverages.

The person who interviewed me said in an e-mail that she won't be checking e-mail until early January so you'll probably get a response eventually.Nonconsecutive wrote:Has anyone who sent an email to the admitted students "1L2B" email during the holidays gotten a response? You guys.
It's cold out.
Also, for the ASW's, are you guys staying in hotels or just crashing by friends in the area? Just booked a flight for the March ASW but might end up switching to April, still trying to figure stuff out and Southwest doesn't charge to cancel.

I think I might crash at friends of friends since I don't really personally know that many people up there.wtrc wrote:You guys.

I had a friend who was up in Boston for a few years and said the winding streets are like a big middle finger to people used to the grid of NYC.
Edit: But I'm glad I get to take on that challenge!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
