I believe it is directly to UVA through the admissions email, but I'm not positive.sl5uw13 wrote:I dont know where to find this info but if we haven't sent our fall grades to u.va yet can we just send them directly to uva or do we have to go through lsac?

Does anyone know if we absolutely need to submit needaccess to qualify for merit based awards and receive federal loans? On the website it looks like we do not, but I spoke with someone in the financial aid office and they said that we need to submit needaccess to be considered for any scholarships whatsoever. Has anyone received a merit award so far without submitting needaccess?

I don't believe it has gone out yet. And submitting need access for merit aid doesn't make sense. Most will be using merit aid to decide where to go before they even start completing financial aid applications.angels2fly wrote:I don't know if any aid has gone out yet?GeneralFile(s) wrote:Does anyone know if we absolutely need to submit needaccess to qualify for merit based awards and receive federal loans? Re: UVA Class of 2017
Hmm, I agree that submitting needaccess doesn't make sense for merit scholarship consideration, however, the financial aid office contact said that the deadline for submitting needaccess and fafsa was next friday (02/14) and that is was required to be considered for any scholarship at all, which makes me kind of wary, since I would really not like to submit needaccess but still be considered for a merit scholarship.I don't believe it has gone out yet. And submitting need access for merit aid doesn't make sense. Most will be using merit aid to decide where to go before they even start completing financial aid applications.
I have a small hunch that in reality they only strongly suggest submitting needaccess, but am hoping to get some kind of confirmation from others who have received merit scholarships without submitting it.

From the UVA Law website:
Merit Scholarships
A number of merit-only scholarships are awarded to entering students each year. The value of merit scholarships may range from $5,000 to full tuition. All admitted applicants will be considered for merit-based scholarships, and no separate application is required.

That is precisely the source of my confusion, since the contact at the financial aid office said we will not be considered for any scholarships if we do not submit needaccess by February 14th.JustaQ wrote:From the UVA Law website:

Re: UVA Class of 2017
Let me clarify the February 14th. February 14th is the priority consideration deadline. Meaning, if you submit by then you'll have a COMPLETE financial aid package by the end of March. I would get in contact with Jason Dugas to source out the confusion. He would be able to give you definitive answers, rather than us just speculating. I can almost guarantee that need access does not need to be completed to be considered for merit aid, but he will be able to give you a certain answer to that.GeneralFile(s) wrote:That is precisely the source of my confusion, since the contact at the financial aid office said we will not be considered for any scholarships if we do not submit needaccess by February 14th.JustaQ wrote:From the UVA Law website:

Does anyone know how late the Open House goes? I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to fly out Friday night, but I don't see any times on the schedule.

Checking in very, very belatedly. Made my first visit to campus yesterday--enjoyed it! Sat in on con law w/ Risa Goluboff in the AM and her husband Richard Schragger's property class in the afternoon. They were both outstanding! As was Bodo's Bagels. Still a long road ahead in terms of making a decision on where I will ultimately attend, but the fact that UVA has free coffee in the library is a major selling point!

For those who are on the waitlist on Jeffersonian Apartment. I was on my 11th and got offered 2 bed room. There are several options left(floors, 1bed/2bed) you can choose, so don't sweat it if you are on 10-20 waitlist.
Also, if you are looking for a townhouse setting with a small back yard, Arlington Park could be a good fit. The lease information I got from the Woodard property is as following.
--LinkRemoved--
"We will begin leasing the Arlington Park Townhomes for 2014-2015 school year at the end of January. The rent will be $1,125 per month and there is a utility fee of $105 per month for internet, water, sewer, trash, and grounds maintenance. You would set up your own electricity and gas."
Hope this helps.

Is it unusual/unwise to wait until ASW to try and find housing?

It can't be that unusual, since a good portion of the people at ASW won't have even decided on UVA yet. Seems like a good idea to set up appointments to see places while you're there. Also, Ive got a lease for a 2 bedroom and will probably start looking for a roommate during/after ASW, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one in that situation, so that's worth thinking about if you're looking to share an apt.BigDawg wrote:Is it unusual/unwise to wait until ASW to try and find housing?

Has anyone heard anything about scholarships yet? I was admitted a while ago and was told they were going to start awarding scholarships in February. I'm just wondering if that has started yet.

Nobody has heard about money yet that I know of. I think they will be starting in March in line with what is on the website. I know there were some conflicting documents between the website and the admitted students package, but from the looks of it, March is when they will start with $$$.Sojourner2 wrote:Has anyone heard anything about scholarships yet? Hey,
I was reading through this and someone mentioned fall grades. Do you have to send UVA your fall grades and then your spring grades when they come out? I never saw any communication that outlined the procedure for this. I was accepted awhile ago, so do you only need to send them in if you haven't been accepted yet?

All we needed to do was submit FAFSA and Need Access, right? We didn't need to submit or fill out anything in the sisuva.admin.virginia.edu site they gave us log-in information for?RCO2012 wrote:Nobody has heard about money yet that I know of. Correct. That is for the complete financial aid package including loan information and what not. I believe merit scholarships will still be awarded if those have not been completed.jdapplicant wrote:All we needed to do was submit FAFSA and Need Access, right? I don't believe merit scholarships have been awarded yet--I was told Feb and it appears others were told March. I was just checking in to make sure they hadn't already gone out.
In years past they offered them at the same time as admissions (or soon thereafter), but they seem to be doing things a little differently this year.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
Yes, this cycle is much different than those prior, including scholarship consideration. UVA, from what I have read, is aiming to spend more wisely, and so offers are going out once they have a better idea of what the entering class may look like. The timelines and expectations page on the UVA site state that merit scholarships will be awarded in March and April.Sojourner2 wrote:I don't believe merit scholarships have been awarded yet--I was told Feb and it appears others were told March.
