Kind of but not to the point that it's predictable or aping the plot. Until one event occurs around halfway into the season, we're not even certain they exist in the same universe, but the way they intersect is very tastefully done. It still involves the folksiness, it still involves certain similar themes, and it still involves crime occurring in that world, but it's very much it's own thing, too. Most professional critics seem to agree that it's done a phenomenal job of establishing its own territory while serving as a spiritual successor to the film's spirit. I'd absolutely recommend it to a fellow fan of the movie.scottidsntknow wrote:I was avoiding the show since it's one of my favorite movies. Do they still have accents? I wouldn't be interested if they didn't have accents.Serett wrote:Kind of but not to the point that it's predictable or aping the plot. Their accents is basically a huge reason why I watch the show.scottidsntknow wrote:Do they still have accents? Sopranos.
Mad Men might be the most emotionally honest and intelligent show evar.
Lost. It's the journey, not the destination.
I never finished Big Love, but I should have.
Comedy:
The Larry Sanders show. Hank Kingsley is the most wonderfully written and acted character in the history of television.
Harvery Birdman, Attorney at Law (adultswim.com) / Wonder Showzen (use your research skills) / Snuff Box (netflix)
I also recommend watching Entourage, just to see how something goes from so much fun and potential to so much garbage. I haven't figured out exactly when I went from watching to hate-watching.
Oh, and Kroll Show and Nathan for You. And Louie, obviously.

Ok if we do this, there will have to be separate categories so that we include as many as possible.goldenboy514 wrote:New Poll:

Maybe genre of TV show with an example. Like...
- Period Drama (i.e. Mad Men)
- Medieval/Historic Fiction (i.e. Game of Thrones)
- Grit Drama (i.e. Breaking Bad)
Etc? Or network...

Mhm I was actually thinking by network might be interesting too, to start.leigh912198972 wrote:Or network...scottidsntknow wrote:Ok if we do this, there will have to be separate categories so that we include as many as possible.goldenboy514 wrote:New Poll:

Edit: Although AMC alone would be a hard choice.

If I had to choose solely one comedy and solely one drama, Arrested Development and Game of Thrones, respectively.goldenboy514 wrote:New Poll:

We could do a round-by-round elimination of best TV shows.

We could match them up by network, and then put the best show from each network in the final poll.cricketlove00 wrote:We could do a round-by-round elimination of best TV shows.

Haha maybe I should have! I was researching the influence of CEDAW in the Middle East. I had to read a million reports from states on what they were doing (or not doing) to promote gender equality. The findings gave me a bit of hope for the effectiveness of public international law... if only on paper.Bajam wrote:Lol what was the paper on, you should've just crowd sourced it from the everyone ITTfkt18 wrote:Update: Paper was eventually submitted. Okay nevermind. If you crowd sourced I would be of no help, but I'd be rooting for you.
Actually I could probably help by copy pasting google.com and sending it your way so you'd just have to click instead of type it all out.
