Accepted today -- any chance of a scholarship is pretty much out the window, right? Since I was accepted after the January cut-off for aid? Or are we still holding our breath?

Re: Michigan Class of 2017
It's not out of the question. I believe that all scholarship for people accepted in the fall/early winter were supposed to be given by the end of January. From then on, it's on a rolling basis (around 2 weeks). Wait a couple weeks and see.scorneli wrote:Accepted today -- any chance of a scholarship is pretty much out the window, right? When I got the Darrow call, she mentioned that they've had some technical difficulties reviewing the interviews and that they might be taking a bit longer than usual. Don't lose hope!ejan1621 wrote:Any word on Darrow today? This wait is killing me. Just tell me I didn't get it already UM!
But really don't because then I'll be so sad and worry that I don't interview well.

Interviewed for a Darrow last month (no call yet). Logged into the Admitted Students site to check "Admissions Communications" and found this:
"Darrow Scholarship Award Letter" - dated 1/31.
Nothing shows up under Financial Aid, though.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

My Dean's Scholarship Award Letter maining was listed on the site about 3 days before it showed up under financial aid.Vursz wrote:Interviewed for a Darrow last month (no call yet). Logged into the Admitted Students site to check "Admissions Communications" and found this:

If I recall correctly, mine was listed at 8:00am on a Saturday where it had not been the day before, so it seems like an AM update. But that's just my experience.

Vursz - it's weird that she didn't call. My Admissions Communications has the same thing with nothing listed under awards. I'd say it's safe to say you got the Darrow!

Guys,
Apologies if this has been answered. In the admitted students website -- under my financial aid award, is the amount annual or overall?
Edit: I see earlier that some mentioned that it is most likely per year. Any confirmation of that?

Several people have confirmed this. When I reached out to admissions personally, they said that "To answer your question, the scholarship is a merit award of $xxx during each of your three years at Michigan Law (to be distributed in the amount of $xxx for each of six semesters), for a total of $xxx."Chrysogonus wrote:Guys,

That said, I know its hard to take the word of strangers on the internet on something important like this - they should be answering their phones if you want to call and confirm for yourself.

Also, your award letter sent in the mail will make it explicit. Assuming it's listed the same way for everyone, which is an assumption I'm comfortable making based on everything I've seen thus far, they list the yearly amount on the admitted students website.alex.cm wrote:Several people have confirmed this. Vursz - mind saying when you interviewed? My interview was about 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering if no response yet means I'm out of luck.Vursz wrote:Interviewed for a Darrow last month (no call yet). Logged into the Admitted Students site to check "Admissions Communications" and found this:

Is it just me, or when (non-law) people ask you what schools you got in to and you reply "Michigan" they pass it off like it is some TTT school. However, tell people you got into Cornell and suddenly their faces light up like you are some prodigy.
Im all the way out in California, so maybe that has something to do with it

I generally have the same reaction when I tell people not in the field, but anyone who has been around higher education seems to understand what an excellent school Michigan is, which is obviously what matterslogical seasoning wrote:Is it just me, or when (non-law) people ask you what schools you got in to and you reply "Michigan" they pass it off like it is some TTT school. FWIW, I'm in Cali, and everyone I've told about my Michigan acceptance has known that it is a GREAT school and been really excited! I'm also in California, and people have been very impressed.

When I tell people at work (not in the legal field) where I'm going to law school, they immediately ask, "Oh, do you have family around there?" When I tell them, "no," they always follow-up with, "Then why Michigan?"
Is there a non-pretentious way to say that it's because it's a great school?

Re: Michigan Class of 2017
Honestly, I'd say (essentially) this. I think the bluntness of, "It's one of the Top Ten law schools in the country" mitigates some of the inherent conceit in giving an honest answer to the question. Yes, a better response would go more lengthily into program offerings, employment statistics, the state of the legal field, the T14, etc, but I just wouldn't feel like talking that much and think it would come out at least as pretentious.jk148706 wrote:I be like.. top 10, you mad bro?MooseNux wrote:When I tell people at work (not in the legal field) where I'm going to law school, they immediately ask, "Oh, do you have family around there?" Or you could just give a flippant response. In response to being asked why I was cancelling when I terminated my service with Charter (I STILL ABHOR YOU, CHARTER), I told them that I was switching to ATT because I preferred their logo.

Re: Michigan Class of 2017
I definitely haven't had this - but I'm also in DC currently and there's tons of Michigan people down here, so that might have something to do with it.logical seasoning wrote:Is it just me, or when (non-law) people ask you what schools you got in to and you reply "Michigan" they pass it off like it is some TTT school. And "back home" is Ann Arbor, so by the way people react you'd think Michigan beats out Harvard.

Re: Michigan Class of 2017
So in the scholarship letter I got from Michigan, it specifically says they will not 'compete' with other schools financial aid offers. Does anyone know if they are just saying this, or if it is actually true?
I'm not complaining or anything. I'm totally excited to have just gotten what I did. But it would still be nice to try and negotiate for more
