Anyone know when PILS decisions usually come out, and how much that award is for?

It's not until either the very end of March or the very beginning of April.

I will ~~research~~ and get back to you all.

ETA: I had the timing right. It's right on the cusp of March/April (seemed to be before April 4th).

In the brief research I did, I couldn't find out how much it was.
Nobody in either the Applicants or C/O 2016 thread mentioned receiving it (though my search was limited to the late March/early April dates.

ETA2: I saw some speculation that it was 1/3 of tuition.

Website says late March is when decisions are made. Somewhere else it says one-third tuition, but there was one profile on LSN from 1-2 years ago that had well over half tuition and noted that as being a PILS award. Too lazy to poast links.

Thanks for the info guys, I applied to the PILS program and was awarded a normal merit scholarship money today. Does anyone know if the PILS scholarship would add to this if I get it? It's hard to find much info on the program at all.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the *only* scholarship that adds onto the original is PILS.

I was pretty honest in my response, and got 25k per! Not enough without some added need-based aid, but a good starting point imo.

Confused about the language in my scholarship email, it says that if I qualify for a need-based grant that is more than my merit-based award, I will receive the higher need-based scholarship instead. So you don't get both, in the event that your need-based award is more. I'm assuming if my need-based award is lower than my merit-based one, I can keep both?

Not sure. That's kind of strange. It's like they're penalizing the people who have the most financial need.

No, I think no matter what, you only get whatever is the higher amount, it'll just change how it is dispersed. If you receive 5k need and 25k merit, you only get 25k, 20k will be merit and 5k will be need. The school didn't seem to find that the least bit pointless at ASW...

That's true for merit vs. need based aid, but PILS is a merit scholarship, so I think that's why it could be combined with another merit offer. I'm not sure that's how they do it, but that would be the rationale I think.

So it's definitely not worth applying for need based, then. Good to know!

I am too. I'm also in the invited to apply but didn't hear yesterday boat. I didn't name a specific amount in my response to them, just said that Georgetown is one of my top choices, but that costs are a concern and any assistance they offer would help my decision. I was hoping they would at least make an initial offer, even if it's low, so I can negotiate.

Would anyone in the "invited to apply" group (doesn't matter if you've heard or not heard back yet) mind sharing or PMing me their stats? I'm just curious what the stats are to be invited to apply for merit aid are.

I wasn't aware until reading this forum yesterday that being invited was even a thing. I wasn't invited, but Georgetown admitted me within about two weeks of me applying (back in Nov/early Dec) and I've gotten into several schools ranked significantly higher than Georgetown so I was hoping for at least a little money from them.

Maybe I'm just not special...

Pretty sure I saw a good number of students with better numbers than mine who are waiting, and many students with average numbers who received their offers yesterday.

I'm not really worried about being outed by adcoms, I have a 171, 3.75 and was invited on the 30th of january, have not received any offer yet!

Yeah, but plenty of people with really solid numbers haven't either. So I really don't think the "elite candidate" thing is true. Furthermore, how many people with below 170 were invited to apply in the first place? I feel like it wasn't terribly many.

It's gonna be a long time before they dish out all their merit money. Their median will probably drop to 167, so it really is going to be an elite few who are over 170.
