Also excited considering NYU doesn't have as much lay prestige in the MidWest as it does in other parts of the country and I'm getting sick of explaining where I'm going to law school

This is too true. The only person who has ever gotten excited about my law school was from the East Coast.

Seriously though. After explaining to someone that I was going to "New York University" their response was "Why would you travel so far to go to a state school when you could go to U of I or Michigan?" And I was all

At least they're not getting it confused with New York Law School...

I know, right!? The last thing I've seen on TV with someone going to NYU was the show Girls with the notoriously dumb character be the butt of jokes since she's like in her late 20s and still in NYU undergrad so even that gives us a bad rep

NYU undergrad is good but it kind of gets shit on a lot
Maybe it's related to their battles with the neighborhood and the perception that everyone who goes there is a trust-funder

But yeah, the difference in "prestige" between NYU undergrad and law is pretty crazy. The lawyers I know are pretty happy for me, but everyone else doesn't really get why I'm so pumped

This has its advantages. For one, my wife and I don't feel like tools when we talk about where we're going. It's kind of nice when people just shrug it off.

In my case, people are just excited to hear that I'm moving to NYC and they have no clue about NYU or any law school prestige.

I've been playing around with NYUs registration systems for a few days looking for any indicators but haven't found much yet. This time last year someone posted a list of classes by section, but sections assignments seem to be given out later. No idea where they got that list last year.
