I tried but couldn't. Apparently there is a list that you could be on to get your ID early, but I don't know how one would go about getting on that list. I didn't look into it further.Nonconsecutive wrote:Side topic, continue on with the sorting debate![]()
For those who have already moved to the area, are you able to pick up your Harvard IDs early or do you have to wait until orientation?

Would that list have anything to do with whether you are in a HUH apartment? I am wondering, because my building requires key card accesscodyoneill wrote:I tried but couldn't. Re: Harvard Class of 2017
The email reminder I received on July 16th about the ID photo said August 8th was the deadline, not sure if they changed it to the 15th (as per the list you linked), but just figured I'd share.Pneumonia wrote:August 15th I believe.happymonkey wrote:When do we have to upload our ID pictures by?

Thanks! Does anyone know what the login credentials are for HELIOS? I'm getting confused with all the usernames and passwords.

I just picked up my keys to HUH today and they said that they're starting to print ID's this week. I'm going to try tomorrow, so I'll let y'all know if it works.yomisterd wrote:Would that list have anything to do with whether you are in a HUH apartment? Thanks, TripTrip! But what I meant was does which section they place you in matter? Like do they try to diversify each section, or is it legit just random?TripTrip wrote:I can assure you that all seven sections exist. And yes, it matters which you are in. All of your classes will be with that section first semester, and most of them second semester.MnM22 wrote:Question: Does anyone know why the sections are 1, 5, 6, and 7? Like why no 2-4? Here's how the sections are chosen: <a class="vglnk" title="Link added by VigLink" rel="nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQZFWA2 ... </span></a>
We've advanced slightly past the hat. Now there's a computer algorithm. I've heard that the file name is sorting_hat.exe

No luck on the ID front. We can only get ours at orientation.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
I was wondering about this - in the orientation schedule, two of the sections seem to have the same programming, and 5 of the sections have the same programming. Weird split.MnM22 wrote:Thanks, TripTrip! But what I meant was does which section they place you in matter? Re: Harvard Class of 2017
Don't read anything into the programming different sections have aside from the quirks of your section leader and their schedule.
As far as how they create sections, nobody knows, but you have to imagine that it's not completely random (sections are roughly gender-balanced and reflect pretty well the overall diversity of the law school, which would be exceedingly unlikely if the process were completely random).
Whether or not they use other attributes as well, nobody knows.
What section you are in does matter to the extent that you have different professors that will change your experience. Section 6, for example, will absolutely love their section leader but won't learn Tort law in any traditional sense because Hanson doesn't teach Torts.

Are you getting comcast? I haven't decided if I should pay extra or just live with mediocre, free internet.cway wrote:Setting up wireless internet in HUH basically makes me want to die. That's all.

Living actually in Boston seems impractical. I would imagine off-campus people are mainly in Cambridge and Somerville. I would start by looking on the Red Line in those cities. If you really want to save money moving further in away from the train can save you a lot of money.webbdp3 wrote:Are any 1Ls living off campus or actually in Boston? Have you checked out HLS List? Someone posted yesterday looking for a roommate. Somewhere between dismal and mediocre. I'm trying to monitor my DL rate, and it varies between 3.5mbps and 8mbps. I'm worried that it will sink even lower when all the students are back.Nonconsecutive wrote:How is the Harvard internet?
