Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
I didn't get any kind of confirmation- my faaps page still says to submit the documents. When I emailed my W-2s, I asked if they needed anything else and they said they would let me know, so I'm guessing they just haven't gotten around to changing the status?fivestarfolds wrote:Has anyone received confirmation that their scholarship offer has been finalized after they sent in tax docs?

Okay, that's good to know that your status hasn't changed. I emailed them as well and it seemed like they had everything they needed. I just didn't want to slip through the cracks.leezabee wrote:I didn't get any kind of confirmation- my faaps page still says to submit the documents. Paglababa - it makes sense that they wouldn't need tax docs for you and your parents if your aid was merit based. My letter, which could be a mixture of need/merit, specifically asked for all of this stuff to be turned in by May 15 (?). Your letter will likely mention whatever it is they need from you.

For those who interviewed for RTK in late March...
are any of you still waiting for your travel reimbursement check?

Anyone figured out how to change her or his NetID handle?
Mine is clunky and aesthetically displeasurely.

You can make an e-mail alias (first.last or whatever) if you log onto NYUHome and go to Preferences at the top.Power_of_Facing wrote:Anyone figured out how to change her or his NetID handle?

I was also informed that at some point this summer they'll give us the @law.nyu.edu designation.
Be careful about what you set your alias to, as you can only change it once a year. You might even try making an alias with the @law.nyu.edu designation, but I don't know if it will work.
ETA: I'd read this first: http://www.nyu.edu/its/email/address/#set

There are restrictions that apply to the alias you can choose yourself. Basically, it cannot depart too far from what they understand to be your first/last name.
However, if you e-mail the law school IT department (not the general NYU IT department), they will change your alias for you. My law.nyu.edu address is active now, and far more manageable than the original...

I've got my Firstname.Lastname@law.nyu.edu up and running. But it sucks because outgoing mail still shows that it is from fl280@nyu

I'm currently e-mailing out of the law.nyu.edu address.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
The policy is nowhere near as strict as is described and nothing like the NYU undergrad dorms. If a non-NYU guest comes over either the doorman will call up and you can have them sent up or you can come down and get them. You don't need to sign people in. In D'Ag, anyone with a NYU ID can get in without being called up, whereas in Mercer if you go to NYU but don't live in Mercer (and have a Mercer sticker on your ID) you'll need to be called up like a non-NYU guest. Only time you need to sign people in is to get them a guest pass so they can come and go without you being there. There really is no tracking of things. My roommate's boyfriend stayed at the apartment 5 nights a week the whole year and no one in the building noticed or cared, but he could not get into the building w/o one of us letting him up.
I assume the policy is in place so that if your roommate is annoyed by the number of guests you have over they can do something about it.
No curfew. Private bedrooms. No restrictive social rules. Co-ed. Guests allowed (opposite sex/same sex/whatever you're into). Alcohol allowed to my knowledge.
Doesn't sound much like dorm life.
How stringent is the whole signing in over night guests? Can it be spontaneous?
I think we're going to have to take the question to current students to get an idea of how it actually plays out in practice, but the policy is below. ETA: scooped above on practice
I can only speak from experience in NYU Undergrad housing, which I'm assuming operates at least similarly. You could bring in guests spontaneously, but there was a limit on the number of nights they could stay. Also, the degree of flak experienced when signing someone in was really dependent upon which security guard was on duty that night.

NYU wrote:Visitors must be announced from the Front Desk or present a Guest Pass. Residents may have overnight guests but, in fairness to your neighbors and any apartmentmates, you must follow some established rules. You must be in attendance at all times when you have a guest. You may have overnight guests for a total of no more than seven nights per 30-day period. (A particular guest may be a guest in Law School housing for no more than seven nights per 30 day period.) The resident/licensee will need to obtain a Guest Pass for each guest, each visit; you can do this simply by stopping by the office in Mercer Residence or D'Agostino Hall. You will need written permission from your apartmentmate(s) if you are having more than one guest at a time or if your guest is staying more than three consecutive nights; both require authorization from the administration.
