well my search was not that thorough, to be honest. but if someone used any variation of the word "negotiate" in their post to talk about it, then i didn't see it.ivyleaguer6 wrote:bom - idk how you conduct these lightning fast searches, but they're a godsend. thanks.barrelofmonkeys wrote:i feel like there were some ITTivyleaguer6 wrote:do we know of anyone who appealed a 0$ financial aid award and was denied?

on more positive notes, i went from 0 -> 62.5
so...it could work out either way.
my best advice to you would be to go in not expecting anything

yeah, but i tls stalked you - you're a superstar and nyu would definitely have the incentive to up that award! i, on the other hand, not so much. so you're absolutely right, im going in expecting nothing but obviously hoping for anything. at this point, i'm not even hoping for a huge amount. but sticker is not an option.barrelofmonkeys wrote: fwiw, there were definitely some people who started with 25k and ended with 25k.

I don't think it's rare, I just think the 0 --> 0s are not super inclined to post about it : (Max324 wrote:I actually didn't know it was that rare.
We're dealing with a relatively small sample anyway.

The highest frequency answer on the poll is $0. Since we can change our answers it's safe to assume many of those had their appeals denied.
Also, according to NYU's 509 for last year, only 37.1% of students received merit or need-based aid. Of those that did receive aid, the vast majority received less than half tuition. A lot of students from wealthier backgrounds would be my interpretation.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
Hi everyone!
I have a quick question regarding the Dean's Certificate. Does NYU still require one from enrolled students? If so, does one need to provide such a certificate from every university-level institution ever attended (i.e., including exchange program hosts and postgraduate institutions), or only from the BA-granting college? It would be good to know before I leave my undisclosed foreign location, considering my postgraduate university's infamous bureaucracy...
Thanks for the info!

Hey bros, checking in. Anyone know how "dormitorial" life in D'Ag is likely to be?

No curfew. Private bedrooms. No restrictive social rules. Co-ed. Guests allowed (opposite sex/same sex/whatever you're into). Alcohol allowed to my knowledge.Arboreal wrote:Hey bros, checking in. Anyone know how "dormitorial" life in D'Ag is likely to be?
Doesn't sound much like dorm life.

Your description of dorms sounds exactly like my college dormitory.

How stringent is the whole signing in over night guests? Can it be spontaneous?SFrost wrote:No curfew. Private bedrooms. No restrictive social rules. Co-ed. My friend was in Mercer, and I've crashed at his place a few drunken nights, and nobody seemed to care.

I think we're going to have to take the question to current students to get an idea of how it actually plays out in practice, but the policy is below. NYU wrote:Visitors must be announced from the Front Desk or present a Guest Pass. Residents may have overnight guests but, in fairness to your neighbors and any apartmentmates, you must follow some established rules. You must be in attendance at all times when you have a guest. You may have overnight guests for a total of no more than seven nights per 30-day period. (A particular guest may be a guest in Law School housing for no more than seven nights per 30 day period.) The resident/licensee will need to obtain a Guest Pass for each guest, each visit; you can do this simply by stopping by the office in Mercer Residence or D'Agostino Hall. You will need written permission from your apartmentmate(s) if you are having more than one guest at a time or if your guest is staying more than three consecutive nights; both require authorization from the administration.
