Your little slightly-more-senior-on-TLS club is cute, but she started it, so I will defend myself as needed; not that it concerns you.phillywc wrote:I've never seen anyone use that like you do. It is not aesthetically pleasing, correct, or easier to do. Also, don't attack BOM she is way, way cooler than you.SFrost wrote: Oh, I see. You understood but were just being righteously indignant regarding a colloquial style that you didn't like.
I understand the dangers of using quotes to emphasize words, as opposed to the more standard use of italics, for example. In this case there was little confusing my word as ironic, nonstandard, or as a quote. Since this is a non-academic, non-professional setting I still find the all caps word surrounded by quotes to be more visually pleasing and compelling, given the point I was trying to convey.
Also, that blog isn't actually funny. It was too one track.
Also, your lack of familiarity with a common colloquial style does not mean it is not common. It just means you are unfamiliar. Consider yourself more informed. I guess I should also point out that aesthetically pleasing is subjective. I find it pleasing, you might not. I never claimed that you would, however.
