I know it's WAY early, but has anyone been to visit different apartments in the area yet? If so, did you find any good deals?

I had a hand written sentence on the bottom congratulating me. But not like a separate letter/document. It's pretty nice how they personalize it and hand write it. Imagine all those hundreds of letters. Hope they don't get carpal tunnel.RCO2012 wrote:Woot! Me too! Did yours have a personal note?meegee wrote:Just received my official letter today. I'm wondering about the housing situation too. I will most likely not be able to check them out personally before hand, so I'm just going to have to rely on reviews and pictures. When's the general timeline for housing? I've read that for Jeffersonian, you should get your applications in like midnight of December 31. How about the rest?
Also, is it safe to say that Pavillion, Ivy, and Jeffersonian are where most of the law school students will be at? Or will you still bump into other law students in other random apartments?

You'll bump into them everywhere. I don't think I'll be living in on grounds housing, because there's so much nearby that I like better. Jeffersonian definitely meet the midnight opening of the app. I live near Charlottesville, so let me know if I can help with any of that.meegee wrote:I had a hand written sentence on the bottom congratulating me. There's not an organization just for spouses, but there is the parent-oriented Virginia Law Families. If it's just the two of you and no kids, then your section will pretty much be all the organization you need. Spouses are welcome at everything.Gooner91 wrote:Does anybody know if their is an organization for spouses of law students at UVA?

What are your plans for housing? Looking into family housing or looking off grounds?Gooner91 wrote:Thanks for good info. Definitely looking off grounds, hopefully to rent a small house since we have dogs. I am hoping to visit C-ville in march and get an idea of good areas to live in and if driving to school is viable or if I need to live in walking distance.RCO2012 wrote:What are your plans for housing? I believe you said you live near C-ville correct? What are your thoughts on this?

Haha I am in the same boat as you with respect to dogs. Right now, I am thinking I'll sell my house and move as close as possible to the school (I'm about 40 minutes away now). Definitely don't want to be excluded from the activities outside of class, and I wouldn't mind being able to walk to class. I would say try to find something within walking distance if you can. First, you'll be a lot more accessible to activities outside of class, second, if you can save 15 minutes driving that's 15 extra minutes to study, and third, parking can be a pain, so not having to worry about that would be ideal. On the other hand, if you can't find something you like that close, then I don't think a short drive would be too bad. All depends where you would be most comfortable.RCO2012 wrote:Definitely looking off grounds, hopefully to rent a small house since we have dogs. That is a good point about activities. I was looking at the student organizations on the webpage and found more than a few I would like to participate in. haha

They even have a rod and gun club. For anyone who did not see the list on the website here is the list of student organizations.

I did not see it in the OP, but possible I just missed it.

I don't think I put it in the OP, because I was trying to keep it to items people will need prior to classes starting and things to do if they travel to C-Ville. Yeah, when I was on my tour I saw some pictures of the rod and gun club outings - looks fun.

Re: UVA Class of 2017
I live close enough to travel down within an hour to help people who can't. I'm kind of at the mid-point between DC and C-Ville, so not very far away at all. I will be moving though to be closer to the school, just need to sell my house before moving down there, so probably looking at July-ish. I need a sounding board for ideas of types of living and distance from the school, things like that. Of course, there's a huge crowd looking at Jeffersonian, Pavilion, etc., but I think I'm considering going a little further out like a mile or two away and biking to avoid having a huge crowd of stressed out ls students to deal with come exam time. I figure a mile or two away is less than a 10 minute bike ride, and probably less than 5 if I drive for social activities, right? PM me with what you're thinking of for housing, maybe we can brainstorm.zbollenb wrote:RCO, I'm looking for housing. But I thought you already live close/ know the area well?
