Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
that would be quite a big conclusion for such a shitty sample (some threads on top-law-schools dot com). fwiw, i know at least one person (guess) who did the opposite, but this is just more anecdotal evidence.SFrost wrote:My observationally-biased and anecdotal reading of the Chi/Columbia/NYU threads indicates that many people are turning down NYU for Columbia but very little in the other direction.
Would a fair conclusion be that NYU is overvaluing itself and needs to give out more money?

Oh man so many of my favorite places are near NYU. Ippudo for pork buns, Mamoun's for falafel, ssam (lettuce wraps) from Momofuku, A Salt and Battery fish and chips, Benny's Burritos, ramen from Umami Shoppu, plus a million good pizza places and burger joints. Too bad I'll be packing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every day because sticker.gmail wrote:Secret advantage of NYU over CLS: http://www.yelp.com/biz/ny-dosas-new-york

Even worse, I sat through the entire law revue show at the last ASD and will admit under some questioning that I enjoyed it. I may or may not have been fairly inebriated.fivestarfolds wrote:I know that I'm risking a lot of ire by posting this...but...

See, the real power player in the falafel game was Cheeps. That place was balling. 2 bucks for a huge falafel sandwich, much more food than Mamoun's. For a while they let you fill it up yourself, salad bar style. Between that and 2 Bros slice, you could eat like a king for 3 bucks. Went by there recently and was so sad to see they closed. That frites place next door is pretty good though.Max324 wrote:I'm scooping people left and right today.FisterRoboto wrote:Everyone knows about NYU's less secret advantage: http://www.mamouns.com/ right? What's the average 1L weight gain? Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure I'm going to double it.Max324 wrote:I'm making myself hungry and I just ate dinner a few hours ago.FisterRoboto wrote: OhgodwhyarewenoteatinginGVrightnow.

Finally got my aid package. Am I dumb, or is there no official NYU 2014-2015 budget posted yet? I want to do the COA caclulations using LS22's sheet but don't see the breakdown. Does anyone know how much tuition is specifically this year?

Yeah that was disappointing. LS22's sheet factors in expected increases each year. And we have last years budget. So I used last years as Year 1, then I looked at what the projected Year 2 budget was, and then moved that data into year 1.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Hope to be in Greenwich Village next year.
NYU gave me a goose egg for aid, but another T14 school that rhymes with Cornell just got back to me with six figures of scholarship aid. The only reason I really applied for financial aid there was for some leverage with NYU... and hopefully I have some now. I need some wisdom from the oracles, though:
How should I contact NYU (phone, email, etc.)? How do I frame it? (i.e., "I'd love to come here and it's my top choice but my financial position may require me to go to X other school without more aid from NYU...")
Also, how inflexible are deposit deadlines? If I don't get back to Cornell by today, is my seat gone? Worried that NYU will drag their feet...
Thanks, all. Any advice at all appreciated.

That's your first step, but NYU is not going to get back to you today.joltinjoe wrote:No, I haven't.Theopliske8711 wrote:Did you already do an appeal?
Does your Cornell scholarship indicate that you need to withdraw from all other schools you've been admitted to? If so, you're in a bit of a bind.
You might try e-mailing Cornell to ask for an extension, given the fact that you just got the aid very recently.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
What are you goals joltinjoe? If your situation is relatively standard you should probably take Cornell. NYU is probably not going to budge all that much. If you're PI, then maybe my advice would be different. Either way, you should definitely deposit at Cornell today if they refuse to extend your deadline. NYU will not know about a double deposit until approximately May 15.barrelofmonkeys wrote:That's your first step, but NYU is not going to get back to you today.joltinjoe wrote:No, I haven't.Theopliske8711 wrote:Did you already do an appeal?

You have one week to deposit once you get your Cornell scholarship.
Just to add to this:
Just to add to this:
I would say not just be PI, but PI with actual goals. Most vague PI people will end up doing biglaw anyway. Cornell will make that possible with less debt.If you're PI, then maybe my advice would be different.

Thanks for all the advice, general and specific. I called Cornell and I have a week.lawschool22 wrote:Agreed ^Theopliske8711 wrote:You have one week to deposit once you get your Cornell scholarship.

I come from a PI background (public school teaching, three years in a legal aid office) and have pretty specific goals in direct services that were articulated in my application. I'll be sure to work that into my appeal. I appreciate all the advice.
To be dense, I can't seem to find the Appeal section on my FAAPS page anywhere. Not on the top nav bar or anywhere else obvious. Is it hidden? Thanks.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
