People with Levys could you PM me your stats if you don't mind? I'm gauging if Penn is going to be out for me. Also, what is Toll?

Toll is Penn's public interest scholarship/program.paglababa wrote:People with Levys could you PM me your stats if you don't mind? I'm gauging if Penn is going to be out for me. Also, what is Toll?

Interesting. I was curious because my resume doesn't really scream PI.Optimist Prime wrote:Just certain people.flippacious wrote:Got an email about the Toll application process. Anyone know if they select certain people to email, or is this something everyone got?

I got this email as well. How does this compare to, say, the RTK at NYU?flippacious wrote:Got an email about the Toll application process. Anyone know if they select certain people to email, or is this something everyone got?

Re: UPenn Class of 2017
Does anyone know what happens if you are awarded a merit scholarship (James Wilson, Levy, etc.) and then decide to defer enrollment for a year or two? Do you keep the scholarship, or is it forfeited and you have to be reconsidered during your year of enrollment? Tried calling the admissions office to ask but turns out they closed five minutes ago...

RTK has more prestige, a better network, and covers full tuition, whereas Toll covers like 77% of tuition. Still, Toll is an incredible option, just not one that would be considered by anyone who had a RTK.yomisterd wrote:I got this email as well. If your deferment is for a good reason (e.g. not just taking a gahp yah) they will likely hold it for you, especially given the current law school application climate.dubster101 wrote:Does anyone know what happens if you are awarded a merit scholarship (James Wilson, Levy, etc.) and then decide to defer enrollment for a year or two? 90% certainty on this, but of course non of us can speak for Penn Law Admissions and it is probably decided on a case by case basis.

For those of you writing the scholarship essay, what length are you aiming for? I wrote a rough draft and it's just under 1.5 double-spaced pages. Anyone have any idea on what the conventional wisdom is regarding length?

Are any ED applicants going to attempt to make a play at some merit aid? Can't hurt I figure. If so, what angle?

I haven't started mine yet (oops...), but I'm thinking 1-1.5 pages double-spaced. Basing this on the fact that they wanted 1 page for the optional application essays, and said to "keep it brief."dubster101 wrote:For those of you writing the scholarship essay, what length are you aiming for? I'll be there yomisterd...seems like a really cool event!yomisterd wrote:Anybody get the email for the March 6 NYC reception? I am definitely planning on going.
Frozen, I'd bet you could email them and just say "I heard through a friend that there is an event in NYC on March 6. I'll be in the city that week and would love to join if the invitation is open."
Also...no clue why schools would have AS"W" during the week...do they want working people to be able to come? I probably won't be able to get to NYU, which is pretty frustrating and kind of automatically puts them at a disadvantage to the schools on my list that I will be able to visit.

And yeah, I don't get why both NYU and CLS only have ASWs during the week. I definitely won't be able to take 4 days off from work, which kind of really sucks in terms of making my decision.

Think I'll have to miss NYUs ASW due to work. Sucks
Will probably make it for the Penn reception at night. It's business casual right? Wonder how I can pull off not wearing jeans to work and not have everyone question what I'm up to.

Frozen- if you log into the penn law admitted students site with the info they provided and go to "regional receptions" (middle photo link at the bottom of the welcome page) the info will be there.Frozen98 wrote:I jsut checked and March 6th is a Thurs so it's nyu's ASW (not really a "W"). hls is during the actual weekend. lol that'd be interesting to see which one people go to between the Penn reception and the NYU thing. Or if they don't overlap in time, how much overlap there will be in attendees.
I also checked my email and saw that I didn't get the NYC reception email. I'll probably go anyway if I decide to attend NYU's ASW. can you PM the deetz or is it a RSVP kinda thing?

Does anyone know the general schedule for ASW? I tried to look up a schedule of events for last year's, but no cigar.

For folks applying to Toll, how long are your answers to each question?
(Obviously I am asking for a friend; I would never leave something like this to the last minute. Never... *shifty eyes*)

I figured the above posts were about Levy/Wilson and in response to one essay prompt instead of a series of questions, but I probably just missed something in the discussion thread -thanks for bumping it.Robbin Blue wrote:About 4 here.Optimist Prime wrote:1 page double spaced here.gingerspice wrote:I haven't started mine yet (oops...), but I'm thinking 1-1.5 pages double-spaced. Hahaha
I'm sure your answers are great! I wish I had fleshed things out a little bit more, but mostly I'm just glad it's submitted and done with.
