LOLOLOLOL NO HOUSING FOR ME
So pissed. I signed up with a friend of mine and thought for sure we'd get placed somewhere (I think we put down 8 different two-bedroom options). Does anyone know how many people typically get off the waitlist? If we don't get off, I take it we both just get shipped off to subsidized off-campus housing?

Seriously? I thought housing was guaranteed. Did you not check the box saying that you would accept any assignment?
I'm a little shocked that I got my first choice. Kennedy junior studio for me.

No, my housing is guaranteed, I'm just going to be placed on a waitlist that they don't start looking at until July.

Are all contract lengths 1 year w/ termination of occupancy option after spring quarter?

Yikes! Iroh, that sucks, I'm sorry. Hopefully the round 2 lottery will be nicer to go. GMA-- I'm in Kennedy, too! I'm excited, it looks like it'll be really nice!

You can also opt for academic year only, which means you lose option to keep it for next year if you like it. NOT recommended.aboutmydaylight wrote:Are all contract lengths 1 year w/ termination of occupancy option after spring quarter?

Re: Stanford Class of 2017
I was Stanford for undergrad, and just a heads up, housing is scarce. So moving around is much harder than just re-entering next year, and a lot of grad students don't get assigned housing in the regular draw. Also law students get priority in Munger, but nowhere else, so if you didn't list Munger as an option, there's a non-trivial chance of not being assigned.
But I'll be in Kennedy junior studios too Gma!

So what do you do if you're not there during the summer? Sublet?ThinkNegative wrote:You can also opt for academic year only, which means you lose option to keep it for next year if you like it. From what the guides were saying on the housing tours, yeah, you sublet for the summer. You also can only sublet to grad students.

Wouldn't most of them already have housing though?Iroh wrote:From what the guides were saying on the housing tours, yeah, you sublet for the summer. You also can only sublet to grad students.

Potentially dumb question: How do you tell if your lease is a year or academic lease? Mine says August 25 to August 16. Does that mean it's a year-long lease and I can just renew it next year without reentering the lottery?

Sounds like you have a year-long lease but email housing to be certain.
I think what the guide meant is that you can only sublet to another "Stanford affiliate" over the summer. Could be a grad student, a visiting scholar, someone with a research job over the summer, etc. They just have to show that they're someone who's otherwise eligible for the scarce on-campus housing. (Lots of people are here just for the summer. You post an ad on supost.com and subletting is pretty easy as long as you get on it early enough. Start in March.)aboutmydaylight wrote:Wouldn't most of them already have housing though?Iroh wrote:From what the guides were saying on the housing tours, yeah, you sublet for the summer. If you decide during the year that you'd prefer different housing in the future, you can change your lease. But you cannot extend your lease to full year if you started with academic.
