Re: Cornell Class of 2017
Cornell is up to #6 in terms of outcomes better than every school but Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, Penn and Chicago:
http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/career ... istics.cfm
57.5 (100+ firms) + 10.9 (Federal Clerkship) = 68.4%
This changes everything!

Ah those look nice.
What's the deal with the school funded jobs at Cornell? Seems like there's a huge difference at a lot of (even T14 schools) as to what those actually mean career-wise.

In case anyone's interested, we have a new dean: http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/spotli ... w-Dean.cfm
The Rhodes Public Interest Law Fellowship is legit, but I don't know what the others are like.Winter is Coming wrote:What's the deal with the school funded jobs at Cornell? Seems like there's a huge difference at a lot of (even T14 schools) as to what those actually mean career-wise.

All I want is scholarship info to be released! Ah! It's the last piece of the puzzle and is preventing me from finalizing a decision. This has been a long process...

Got my aid letter today! Just submitted the last documents on last Friday, other stuff was sent in 2 weeks ago. 30K/year and I'm barely above both 75ths!

When were you accepted? Wondering if they're doing it by acceptances and by the dates documents were sent.King Cayuga wrote:Got my aid letter today! Just submitted the last documents on last Friday, other stuff was sent in 2 weeks ago. 30K/year and I'm barely above both 75ths!
Cornell why are you so slow with your entire process (I still love you)?

ETA: Did you also apply for both need/merit or just merit?

I was accepted in mid-November and applied for both need and merit(no clue how they arrived at the scholly number, probably a mix of both).Bajam wrote:When were you accepted? I swear I'm not this unpleasant in real life, but TLS has never seemed like a place where rosy optimism goes over well

Just got my financial aid award attended the most recent ASW. It's extremely competitive but it did not seal the deal for me.
edit: URM, came snail mail and I attended the most recent ASW

Re: Cornell Class of 2017
There's the HT rhodes scholarship which is a two year funded thing and pays a pretty competitive starting salary for PI. Its very similar to an EJW or skadden fellowship but is only open to cornell students.Winter is Coming wrote:Ah those look nice.

I'm really not sure about the other ones but here are my guesses:
Cornell guarantees you funding of like 1k per month to volunteer at a public interest org for I think up to 16 months. They mainly do this so that kids who want to work at say a DA or SA office that just won't hire anybody until they have their bar results (state policy or whatever) don't starve while they volunteer at that office. Its really not a lot of money but its just meant to take the sting out of volunteering.
I've noticed over the years that a few graduates have stuck around to do research assistant type stuff for certain professors. Each of these people either went to clerk or went to big law and were on law review etc. so I feel like maybe there are a few school funded positions for academic research.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
