I think the real question is if we assign each dorm a Hogwarts house or a Game of Thrones house.

Ugh, all I want in this world is a North room.malleus discentium wrote:Both. Dibs on slitherjoy for North.jingosaur wrote:I think the real question is if we assign each dorm a Hogwarts house or a Game of Thrones house.
If Gropius has a closet next to the laundry room and air conditioning machinery that runs $2K per month, that will surely be the room I end up with. Damn you, housing lottery.

Gropius doesn't have air conditioning so it will probably be a water heater. HTHTheMostDangerousLG wrote:Ugh, all I want in this world is a North room.malleus discentium wrote:Both. Oh dammit. Mine is 5/30. Guess I better start looking off-campus.happymonkey wrote:Just received my HUH view and select window. Does anyone know when the first window is? I got 5/13-5/14. Any ideas if this is good enough to get an apartment?

What sort of info did you all put in the "Special Circumstances" box for the Student Financial Resources financial aid form? Is this where I'd put that my stepmom doesn't support me? I'm guessing my dad is going to be putting that in the parent form.. I also wonder how in-depth the explanations here need to be.

I'm mostly worried about the upperclassmen, but I'll take any glimmer of hope at this point.RedShift wrote:I wonder if there are a lot of people who got a window for both housing options and will choose the dorms. Re: Harvard Class of 2017
Hastings and North have bigger rooms and better bathroom situations. A lot of people don't want the UG dorm feel that Gropius has so they go to Hastings and North. If you don't mind living in a small room and sharing a communal bathroom with a lot of people, Gropius type 1 is definitely the best option.gottago wrote:I select very soon. Gropius type 1 is 770 a month whereas everything else is in the thousands. How is this not a no brainer?

I know I mentioned this a page or two earlier, but I found a good HUH apartment for me and my SO by more or less making the "view currently available" page my homepage for two weeks. Keep an eye out and if something pops up, snag it. At least by being late in the lottery you know you likely won't be passing up a perfect place by choosing a good one out of the currently available page.koalacity wrote:Ugh ugh ugh both my SO and I got 5/30 for HUH.

+1 to this, solid advice. Its my escape plan given the harshbrowns the HUH lottery served me.codyoneill wrote:I know I mentioned this a page or two earlier, but I found a good HUH apartment for me and my SO by more or less making the "view currently available" page my homepage for two weeks. So I wasn't one of the 250 people who got a HLS dorms window and now my HUH window isn't until June. Wow, Harvard hates me

Is a room between my room and the lounge enough to buffer the noise?

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
From the "Ask a Harvard Student" thread, my impression is that the walls in the dorms are thick so you wouldn't be bothered by noise from the lounge, but the doors in the dorms don't block noise well so if anyone leaves the lounge to talk in the hallway near your door, you'll hear their whole conversation.gottago wrote:Is a room between my room and the lounge enough to buffer the noise?
For whatever that's worth.
