IIRC, Trips said you could get a dorm room pretty late (I think half are reserved for 1Ls).heythatslife wrote:Shoot, I don't know what I was thinking but I missed the housing application deadline so I can only choose from May 12 onward. Do you think there will still be some Gropius rooms left by then, or will they have been all snapped up?

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that 1Ls are guaranteed dorms. My tour guides at OCI said that there are empty rooms every year. You might have to settle for Gropius, but it's not the worst thing in the world.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
In case anyone is interested. Within the next few days there will be a Harvard University Housing 1BR, pet friendly apartment listed in the "available now" section of the website. I'm guessing the start date will be around 6/1 and the price will be $1740ish.
I'm terminating the lease today and they usually list these places pretty fast from what I'm told.

There is an empty room in this hall and one in the next one. They kick rising 2Ls and 3Ls out so they'll have enough rooms for 1Ls who want them.jingosaur wrote:I remember reading or hearing somewhere that 1Ls are guaranteed dorms. I was moving in on an apartment until the landlord found out I am an incoming law student, at which point the landlord refused to rent to me
That's a problem I certainly hadn't anticipated.

What, why? Is she really that into scamming her tenants that she doesn't want to tangle with graduate student/lawyer types?Arrow4Christ wrote:I was moving in on an apartment until the landlord found out I am an incoming law student, at which point the landlord refused to rent to meThat's a problem I certainly hadn't anticipated.
And I didnt get an e-mail from the housing people yesterday. Does that mean my application didn't go through?

In property we learned that this is actually quite common. Lawyers and Law students are typically discriminated against because they know their rights and are usually unafraid to enforce them. And this wasnt the professor talking about it, it was literally in the property book.CyanIdes Of March wrote:What, why? Student: Mr. Landlord the heat isnt working.
Landlord: It's Saturday. I'll have a guy come out the day after tomorrow.
Student: WARRANTY OF HABITABILITY...YOU CAN'T CHARGE ME FOR THOSE DAYS...I'LL SUE YOU...

For HLS Housing or HUH? For HUH at least I know you can log in and see if your application has been approved.CyanIdes Of March wrote:And I didnt get an e-mail from the housing people yesterday. Does that mean my application didn't go through?

Here are some of the activities we had during orientation: section meeting, section lunch, section photo, completed registration (signing the book that all HLS students sign) and there are some student organization and other information, campus tour, and dinner.

Ugh, super excited for everyone to start selecting their rooms today. Meanwhile, I'll just be sitting here in the corner, watching, windowless, alone...

That'll be good practice for when you live in a windowless dorm room.TheMostDangerousLG wrote:Ugh, super excited for everyone to start selecting their rooms today. Meanwhile, I'll just be sitting here in the corner, watching, windowless, alone...

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
Just sent my signed lease for HUH housing in Holden Greens. Oh man, this is really happening.
Also, I'm living there for the summer, so feel free to ask me any questions about Holden Greens or moving hassles or the area in the next couple months. I've also got a car and will be going through the whole Cambridge permit parking deal, too.
And if you need a place to crash for a couple days while looking at off campus apartments, you can PM me. We'll have a pullout couch and you might be able to stay with us and avoid the cost of hotels or airbnb.
Good luck to everyone else with housing!

Is it hard to get housing in North if you don't get a selection window? Also, is there any way I can check tonight to see which rooms were taken in the selection so that I can pick from what is left tomorrow?

Found a room under the "currently available" section.Fianna13 wrote:HUH applicants already started their room selections? O.O
If you're doing HUH, you have two options:
1) The lottery / window selection
2) Looking at the "currently available" apartments at any time and choosing one you like. As soon as you select an apartment, you are no longer able to be a part of the lottery / window selection process, but you're also immediately sent the lease for the place you chose; that apartment is now yours. A couple days ago I found a good apartment on the currently available page, selected it that night, and received the lease in my inbox the next day.
It is somewhat terrifying to select an apartment without being able to see it, but I'm trusting floorplans, typical apartment photos, and Harvard's reputation as a landlord. Would not do this with an off campus apartment.

I just did my room selection. I got a room in North so I'm really excited! There were about 40-50 remaining rooms in North Hall and there were up to 9 available on each floor. I didn't get a chance to look at the other dorms because North was my first choice.
Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!
