Is the appeal decision sent the same way as the original? As in they send an email directing you to the faaps site that has a reward letter on it?drawstring wrote:oyvey35 wrote:For those of you who appealed your financial aid offer, how long did it take to receive a response?
About a week.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
Two weeks ago, then I heard back six days later. I'm not sure how people are notified of an increase, but I got an email that reads:
Dear Drawstring,
Thank you for your formal request asking for a re-evaluation of your financial aid award package. The Committee on Scholarship has reviewed your request for reconsideration and, unfortunately, the initial decision has not changed.
Please know that your application and supporting documents were reviewed carefully and in their entirety. Please bear in mind, as a graduate student, you are allowed to borrow to replace your expected student contribution. We realize that this is not a perfect system and that this is a very difficult decision for you to make.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Joel Schoenecker
Director of Student Financial Services

90k at Chicago.
I under-applied so I didn't have much to work with, but I'll take 90k at Chi over a lesser amount at NYU all day.

Yeah definitely. Are you still thinking about reapplying or going to take the best offer and ride waitlists?drawstring wrote:90k at Chicago.

Are you going this cycle? You might have better luck if you just sit it out a cycle and just apply next year. Your numbers are better than mine and that's pretty much my scholly w Columbia.

I've appealed my Chi offer and plan to ride waitlists at Harvard and presumably Stanford until July or so. If I get neither an increase nor HLS/SLS, then I'll reapply. 90K at Chicago is obviously pretty solid, but I feel like I could do even better with my numbers, and there are also a few issues with my applications that I think I can tighten up.

Solid plan. Wouldn't be surprised if you got off a WL either

Anyone interested in the Greenwood Heights area (south of Park Slope)? My current roommate and I are checking out a place tomorrow with two large bedrooms, kitchen, and laundry on-site. He'll be moving out in July, so we're looking for someone from August onwards. Approximately 30 minutes to NYU via the D train door-to-door. Would be $750/mo with 1 month deposit and 1/2 month realtor fee.
If interested, send me your email and I'll send you pics of the place tomorrow when I check it out.

No problem. In hindsight, that seemed a bit like a dick move, but I really love that site.Dr.Zer0 wrote:mylifeis24 wrote:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=NYU+Law+Financial+Aid+EmailDr.Zer0 wrote:Hey guys so I've been UR since 2/17 I'm guessing its time I email the fin aid office to see whats up. Not bad and I don't want to sound entitled, especially given all the $0's given out, but that's still a lot of debt and I think I'd be selling myself a bit short by taking it.

No I don't blame you at all. I was just curious what your starting point was. If you had said $25k or something I would have been more surprised that they didn't increase.drawstring wrote:75k.lawschool22 wrote:What was your NYU offer draw?

Same situation. Mine has been under UR since 2/24. I'm wondering why it takes so long to give me a decision...Dr.Zer0 wrote:Hey guys so I've been UR since 2/17 I'm guessing its time I email the fin aid office to see whats up. Anyone know what it is?

I'm interested in attending NYU this fall but I'm not sure how much more money they need to provide to pick it over HLS (85K). Would love to hear some of your opinions:

What's the LARGEST increase anyone ITT has seen after negotiation? Has anyone gone from $0 to something very significant?
