I guess you will have to find out come August. PM for email and hit me up in August when you get here.
That goes for anyone who has a personality and is not concerned only with beating out everyone in their 1L cohort.

I don't know if anyone saw my other post, but did anyone get a confirmation that their Health/Immunization forms were received?

Just making sure: this is completely separate from accepting our scholarship offers, right? We have to do something else to accept that?cricketlove00 wrote:Log into https://win.wfu.edu/. I know it's a little late but if anyone has any questions about Wake or law school in general feel free to ask. I'm a 2L and people on here were very helpful to me when I was in your position so I'd like to be helpful as well....plus my summer internship is slow.

Anyone know what orientation will be like? How long and what do they go over? I think 1L orientation starts like 9 days before the first date of class.
Thanks for taking questions! How difficult is it to find summer opportunities?ramsdancer1 wrote:I know it's a little late but if anyone has any questions about Wake or law school in general feel free to ask. If orientation is the same as last year, you start your Legal Writing and Research class and probably Professional Development too. We had homework during orientation as well. We also had speakers about the law in general, student loans/financial options- pretty much everything you would want to know. For us I think it started in the morning and ended in the afternoon. Everything was planed out so you were busy for the entire time there. We also placed into sections during orientation.AT9 wrote:Anyone know what orientation will be like? As far as summer jobs I can only speak from the people I know but everyone I know found some kind of summer employment. I know people that got jobs with firms, corporations, prosecutor offices and judges. Even if you can't get a paid internship it's not hard to get a unpaid internship. They also have externships that you can take as a class that will place you with an unpaid internship and you get class credit. Honestly, if you do well your first semester just do OCI early and apply to everything that interests you even if you don't meet their criteria because the worst that will happen is you don't get an interview. My friends that did well first semester did well at OCI and the ones who did not do well did the externship program (however one of my friends didn't do that well at all and he is working at a small law firm writing appellate briefs). All in all you can find something.

Your Pro Dev class will be far more organized and interesting than ours was. Trust me

As far as Summer Employment, everyone in our class had a job or internship for the summer. Even those who put no effort into it until after finals were able to find something, even if it was a research job. Not everyone is getting paid, but at least they are getting experience. I took an unpaid gig over a paid one, so do not discount the value of the right experience.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know that summer opportunities (paid or not) are widely available if you put forth some effort.
With the externships, does anyone have experience with the DC programs? How well do those connect people to the DC market? And what kind of local externships are available?

I don't have experience with the DC programs but I know they place you in a judicial clerkship. I'll ask around and see if I can get some information on it though.
As far as local externships, one of my friends was placed at a regional bank working with their in house counsel. Other people also talked about jobs in immigration departments and prosecutors offices. Really it depends on what employers are participating in the program. However, my friends that did the externship this summer didn't have a problem getting something they were interested in because they really try to match you in a position that would give you experience in the practice area you want but of course it can't be guaranteed. There will be a ton of informational sessions throughout the semester about the externship programs and you can ask in Professional Development during orientation as well.

2L here. Figured I would return the favor for all of the valuable information I received as an anxious 1L.
First, I can attest to Ghost Bears douchey-ness. But it is certainly a lovable and endearing douchey-ness.
Second, I have a very good friend who is participating in the DC externship program this summer. It is a ten week program that includes the externship experience and a class component. The program pairs you with circuit court judges, special masters, etc. My friend has essentially had a mini-clerkship experience...working with judge's clerks...researching and writing opinions. The class receives a total immersion in DC. They have happy hours and guest speakers multiple times a week. They received a private tour of the Supreme Court that included lunch with a justice's clerk. All in all, it is a great program that connects you a great number of people.

I like Winston but then again I moved here from a small town (I was literally amazed that the mall was 2 stories until I realized that a 2 story mall is not that uncommon). But I feel like there is enough to do. Downtown Winston is nice and you aren't that far from Charlotte.

Dudes I stumbled upon this link showing the classes: http://registrar.law.wfu.edu/files/2014 ... 4-2015.pdf. It breaks the 100 level classes down by professor and section.

You do realize that you can never reveal yourself. Calling me lovable and endearing will get you black listed by our peers

Yup, had to do it as part of Pro Dev class. I was before, but alas, not after. I saw that you did, why didn't you send over a connection?

That list is probably not gonna happen in that way because Reynolds took over Morant's spot in the meantime -- which is a busy job, so I'm guessing she won't be able to still teach.cricketlove00 wrote:Thanks. Re: Wake Forest Law Class of 2017
I know I'll have plenty of chances to ask questions in like a month, but I'm going to fire off more questions because you guys are awesome (and because I feel like the anecdotal input from students is more representative than what I'd get from the school faculty and staff):
-Are there any requirements for the DC program? Extra costs, etc?
-Any input on how insular the market is? I'm an out-of-stater with no ties to NC directly, which I'm a little concerned about. For those wanting local jobs, how badly will no ties hurt?
-Any stories on grads getting back to out-of-region markets where they have ties?
I think I want to work in one of the bigger NC cities, one of a few cities where I have ties, or DC if I do well enough, so I'm just trying to get a feel for what it will be like.
Also, I quit my job in like 5 weeks to get ready and move. Can't wait!

Re: Wake Forest Law Class of 2017
I have a weird question not necessarily about Wake. I currently have my ears gauged - they are small, though. Only about a 6 or 8. Do you think I should take them out? I don't want them to hinder me getting a good internship or anything like that.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
