You can use NYU scholarships to leverage more money at CLS (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't) but Michigan's scholarship will harder to use. I think it would be best to wait for CLS' initial offer before you start negotiating. Also, leveraging H for more $ at NYU seems plausible to me but I'd like to hear other's thoughts.

By the way, congrats on your acceptances and $$! Seems like it's been a great cycle for you.
Thanks for the information. I think I will try to leverage H for more money at NYU for now, and then hopefully use NYU's offer to negotiate with CLS. I would also like to hear other's thoughts on this idea though. I'm still waiting for financial offers from VPB, and possibly Chicago if accepted, so maybe these could help with NYU if they're high enough?

Thanks a lot! Congrats to you too! :)

Deferral from last year checking in... Planning on visiting during the April "Mondays at Columbia" event, looking forward to meeting you guys! Anybody know where we can find good comparisons between the CLS housing options, other than what is listed on the ASW?

Re:NYU. Last cycle some of my friends were able to get NYU to up $$ based on offers from other schools, so good luck!

Is there some secure site through which I'm supposed to upload my financial aid documents or am I expected to email the aid office my 1040/W2s ?

I faxed it; they said that was the most secure route.

Anyone have the ASW schedule on hand? At work and don't know my pin.

Also can we have a meetup that Wednesday or Thursday? :D

I'd say it's a non-issue; however you're comfortable. I'm paraphrasing another TLSer from a different thread here, but I thought his/her advice was pretty appropriate: dress like you're meeting your girlfriend's parents for the first time for dinner at Cheesecake factory. I read this as casual, but sharp.
Do you think this applies to the Wednesday "welcome reception," too? Also, does anyone have any idea on what kind of reception this is? If it's just awkwardly hobnobbing, I'm probably going to skip it to visit with some friends instead. Thanks!

Do any current students have opinions on Columbia's official housing? I am completely unfamiliar with the NYC real estate market, so I'm thinking of just applying for housing through Columbia, but I might rethink that if people think the housing is terrible/a rip off.

On the contrary, Columbia slightly subsidizes the housing so it's largely under market rate. Though law school-specific housing tends to be more expensive than general UAH (University Apartment Housing, which will include other grad students), for no reason that is apparent to me. Absolutely apply for housing. You'll probably hear in May or June and will still have time to do your own apartment-search if their options aren't what you're looking for, but if your priorities are anything like a) proximity to campus, b) ease of renting process, and c) price, you'll probably be pretty pleased.

Scoobers - registration is from 9-10:30 wednesday morning, so I'd say flying in tuesday night is probably TCR, at least in terms of streamlining things Wednesday morning. And Gary, great call with the meetup - definitely down to get together for drinks one of those nights.

I'd be down for a meetup! I'm bussing up Wednesday morning, so I probably won't get there around lunchtime. I think the NYU group is having a meetup Thursday, so maybe we can have ours Wednesday?

Any others trying to go to both Columbia and NYU for the ASPs? It's kind of awkward because they have a full day overlap and I don't know which I'm going to for that day.

I am. I'm probably staying at CLS on the overlap day because (1) they gave me a travel stipend and NYU didn't and (2) the second day seems more interesting. I dig wine and cheese.
