What're the chances of getting on-campus studio apartment? I'm too old for a roommate.
i dont think there are roommate options available, so i'd say your odds are good
Is this true? Looking at the housing options it appears the majority are two or three bedroom apartments intended to be split with roommates which are selected by the school. I was under impression the studio apartmens were rare (and 1 bedroom apartments expensive).
ya man im sorry, neprep steered me right. This link directly contradicts what I said earlier

Anyone going to the reception tomorrow? I went to the one at Mckinsey already and not sure if I feel like going now...

I'm probably going. I have no idea who is who, though. Yea, the McKinsey one was a bit flat. I'm hoping the Cravath can be nicer, plus its walking distance from my job so it doesn't seem like such a big deal.

They are awkward meet and greet receptions hosted by various trustees are big firms. You meet with then and various NYU admins to have awkward conversations with (not nearly enough) wine and ouderves. The invitations went out a few months back. If you are open to coming try emailing Cassandra Williams:
WilliamsC@exchange.law.nyu.edu, to see of it's still possible to get on the list.
It's honestly nothing special, and a few other law schools have their own.

To offer a different perspective, I enjoyed the McKinsey event. You get to meet and speak with a lot of really impressive people. Also nice to speak with other applicants to get some different perspectives on the process.
These types of events are going to be what you make of them. If you are generally more sociable (and go in with an open mind), it's not hard to have a good time.

I have to admit, I am being more more cynical than warranted. It was actually nice and I had some good conversation with people.

There were some PI people there. You might be able to get in via the email above. They may not be so strict about this stuff.

Question re: scholarship negotiations. My initial NYU offer was disappointing given my numbers (25-50k range). I got a substantially better offer from Duke today (100k+). To what extent would nyu take the duke offer into consideration? Still waiting on a CLS offer as well, for what it's worth.

I'm not sure about this exactly, but its def worth a shot. That is a large differential. Also, I think there has been some indication that NYU takes need into account for scholarships so keep that in mind.

Thanks for your help guys! I'll probably end up keeping her around for panels and then hide her with my cousins a few blocks away for the lunches and things like that!
Not sure if you saw this, but I just read this message in the ASW email they just sent out:
If you plan to bring a guest to the program, please note that we have very limited space for our breakfast, lunch, mock class, and panel discussions. These events are specifically designed to facilitate conversations between admitted students and our faculty, students and administrators. As a result, we will not be able to accommodate guests during these sessions.

Thanks - I will definitely be appealing.
In your appeals, have you guys been requesting a specific $ amount, or just asking for an increase and showing them competing offers? Any thoughts on what works better?

I appealed last week, attached a copy of a higher offer, and asked if there's anything they could do. Pretty short and to the point.
Has anyone heard back from an appeal?

Are people sending aid appeals to the financial aid office or office of admissions? Am I just supposed to email the dean?

I don't think this ever got answered but does someone have insight as to if the bolded is the norm. I appealed yesterday. I didn't email anyone because my appeals tab showed up when I went to "My Follow-Ups" and then clicked on "NYU School of Law Fin. Aid Notification." So I just submitted it from the tab after that yesterday after receiving my Columbia offer.
Now the tab doesn't appear anymore and I have no mention on the faaps site or by email of a confirmation. Is this the norm when using the appeals tab?

Just received a really nice offer from Columbia that I plan on leveraging against the $0K NYU offered me. I have seen this asked before, but I wasn't able to find an answer- I already submitted my initial appeal, which has not been responded to yet. Is it best to just email the FinAid office with details about the new Columbia offer? Or can I appeal via FAAPS a second time? Thanks!

I resubmitted through the portal. I called and they said they didn get it, and told me to email the text and the attachments.

Just to provide another data point for people negotiating-
I submitted a 90k offer from CLS and got 75k from NYU (and 45k from Chi).

I can't believe that Chicago didn't match the Butler. I feel like if you try and negotiate some more they might give in. Still waiting on NYU appeal.

Yeah I was surprised too. But at this point, I'm not looking for a school to just match the 90k, since I'll probably only turn down CLS if another school beats the offer. I'm still waiting to see what Penn and Berkeley offer but it looks like NYU and Chi declined to compete.
eta: also a note for people reading- in my conversations with NYU and Chi I really really sold why I wanted to go there over CLS so maybe they felt like they could offer less?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
