NYU Class of 2017 - Basically graduated Forum

I got $50k ($60k if I do PI during 2L summer). This is very similar to what Stanford and Berkeley gave me in the form of need-based aid, so I'm kind of thinking this $$ from NYU is also need-based disguised as a "dean's scholarship." Which might also explain why a lot of you with good numbers didn't get anything?

ETA: I'm also an RTK reject (did not interview).

Yeah I got a bit more than that with a similar 2L stipulation, and the only explanation I have for it is that they incorporated need into the calculation. My numbers are very splitter and I wasn't expecting anything. The only other explanation I can think of is that I submitted my financial aid info in like January, but so did a bunch of other people.

My appeals tab is also MIA. was visible originally, and now after finishing writing my appeal and scanning in my documents the tab is gone. I tried re-opening the message in my follow-ups, but the tab is nowhere to be seen. Anyone know what's up with this? I emailed the financial aid office letting them know but would like to be able to send in my appeal ASAP

That is consonant with my experience. I should not have received as much money as I did given my numbers. Any school that asked for Need-Access from me ended up giving me double to triple what I was expecting. This is perhaps the only time I've ever been thankful for growing up without resources.

Yup, splitter here as well (incidentally, my unimpressive undergrad GPA is from NYU).

Are you automatically considered for financial aid if you have completed FAFSA and NeedAccess? I was admitted today but I completed both forms in early March.

I don't know if I'll end up there (not without them significantly upping their award), but I have hated the school for a while. It has financed an immense expansion almost entirely on the back of its student body by saddling them with immense debt.

Same here. Got 62k, gpa was under their 25th. Need based has to be the only explanation.

Stupid question, but has anyone here had any success with their appeals? I have acceptance into a higher ranked school with aid as my bargaining chip.

I sent my appeal around mid Feb. Have not heard back yet. I don't expect that they will get around to the appeals until after they have sent out most of their aid and have a better sense of what their class will look like.

I haven't seen the April 21st deadline you're referring to, just the May 2nd one. Where are you seeing it?

Sorry, to clarify: is that seat deposit or a finaid deadline?

I have a "Dean's Award." I don't know what everyone else has but as far as I understand it, this is just the normal aid that you get if you don't have a named scholarship.

In the letter I received, the funding has to be accepted by 4/21 along with my intention to enroll. This will include the initial deposit of $600.

The May 1st deadline is if you didn't receive a scholarship.

We need to form a more open and diverse game club then, and show the URMs of the boardgame world a little love too.

I just came to the realization today that there's roughly a 90% chance I'm going to NYU, and for the first time, I got pretty excited.
