I just got it now! Any idea on the odds of actually receiving the scholarship or how long the essay is supposed to be? The email says a brief essay...I am thinking around one page?
I got that email as well. I was thinking maybe it is similar in length to penns optional essays so one double spaced page. Thoughts?

Sorry to change the subject back to housing (congrats scholarship invitees!), but I'm wondering when you guys are looking to sign a lease? I'm not sure how to go about apartment hunting quite yet since move-in wouldnt be for awhile, but obviously I don't want all the good apartments to be gone. I'm also in sort of a tight situation because I'll be moving with a big dog, which really limits my options. Are you all trying to scoop up apartments ASAP or waiting awhile to see what presents itself?

Also I'm totally down for a NYC happy hour!

I'm looking online, scoping out the forums and whatnot. I plan on visiting places I find online during ASW, and go from there. Most leases don't end 'til May, right? So I'm assuming a lot of apartments for rent will pop up in April-ish.

Edit: I've read that a lot of places are pet-friendly! :)

Be sure to check out the various neighborhoods/buildings during ASW so you get an idea of what it is out there, but most leases that will start in August won't be available until May-June at the earliest.

And yes! A lot of pet-friendly places around here

Congrats on all the various scholarship invites! A few questions.

When did you all of you guys get accepted?

And this is definitely not the only wave of invites for these scholarships, right?

Thanks!

Hey, did anyone (everyone?) else get an invite to apply for the Toll Scholars Program?

I'm thinking I'd start a lease on either 8/1 or mid-month if possible. I'd hate to deal with moving too close to the start of classes. I'm visiting a friend in Philly next weekend, so I'm gonna scout the area and pick his brain about of how the rental market works down there. I'll post any useful details that I'm able to get.

+1 to the NYC happy hour as well

Robbin, I didn't get one. I think only people who have demonstrated interest/experience in PI get it . And I don't have any PI stuff in my app. And you are probably better off asking current students, but to answer your earlier question, I think it was because the LRAP at Penn was pretty weak before. But the new LRAP that came out is now up there as one of the best as Twenty's LRAP guide
Thank you! I kind of thought that the old LRAP was to blame, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some ominous secondary reason. :)

NYC - Penn HH meetup. Just put in your name and check off what days you'd be free. We can pick the day with the most tallys.

We should share this on the facebook group too, since not all admits are on TLS.

Does anyone know if Philly is a good city for bikes?
Do you have a link to Twenty's guide?

It's on par with Chicago and NYU now. I think the cap used to be 55k in the old LRAP, but the new LRAP upped it to 80k and added other benefits.

Bump. I think a few other people mentioned they were interested in an NYC meetup. Please respond so we can set a date.

Also, I'd like to suggest La Biblioteca for the venue. Awesome space/ambiance/happy hour tacos.

Not yet, I plan to submit sometime this week (maybe).

For those who received scholarship invites via email, how long after your acceptance did the invitation come?

Sure, *someone will share on fb.

While the weather looks clear this Friday - let's go ahead and schedule it for this Friday, February 7 at La Biblioteca (622 Third Ave at 40th St (intersection of 40th St and 3rd Ave) at 7:00 pm.

It's a little tricky getting in, you have to enter through the restaurant Zengo and head downstairs.
