Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Got a suit that over performs all my shit from Bloomingdales for my cousin's wedding last year that I plan to use for OCI and whatever other law school nonsense comes up. I would recommend that you splurge on some solid equipage if you find a tailor person that really seems to know their stuff...let them tell you what to buy, essentially, so long as it isn't too insane a price tag.

I know next to nothing about women's formal wear but I doubt you would look out of place in either of those(minus the pink)milkandcheerios wrote:so reading the "ask a 1L thread" got me wondering, how many of you have a suit already?
I have a bunch of separates like blazers, pencil skirts, and slacks in various colors (navy, gray, black, maroon ect) but the suit I had from the beginning of college is too small now. I'm don't know if what I own is professional enough to get me through first semester until we start interviewing. Is it be too unconservative to wear something mismatched like this or this but in more muted colors and styles? Should I go get a charcoal skirt suit ASAP?

We won't need a suit for anything super important till later in the semester right? I have a meh suit (it's black though...) that I just plan on getting tailored and waiting/saving up until later on to buy a nicer suit.

I feel like buying a suit will make it too real.

I ask for money all the time. that's what I was hoping to do too. I want to buy as much stuff as I possibly can after moving because I want to minimize my luggage.Theopliske8711 wrote:Im going to have to buy a new one, but wont do it until later in the semester.
So it seems like I can survive the first few months without a suit? whew I'm really not in the mood to go suit shopping.

Wondering this too. There are a lot of threads about suits for men and how quality/brand/etc. matters but I haven't found anything about women's attire.milkandcheerios wrote:so reading the "ask a 1L thread" got me wondering, how many of you have a suit already?

Also, is anyone planning on attending any CLS-sponsored summer happy hours?

Was just coming to this page to ask if anyone was going to the DC one? I love Marvin's, but I definitely do not want to be the only 0L there.scoobysnax wrote:

All this talk about business attire makes me feel lke a kid, even though I'm probably one of the oldest people here. I'm really going to miss living my life in yoga pants and scrubs. Real clothes suck.

Really bummed re: tattoos on my lower extremities making it ill-advised for me to get a skirt-suit (power suit? I'm gonna go with power suit). I hate pants.

Would stockings cover them up? I hate the damn things, but you'll probs be wearing tights/stockings during the february/march firm receptions, and I think they're recommended for EIP too.francesfarmer wrote:Really bummed re: tattoos on my lower extremities making it ill-advised for me to get a skirt-suit (power suit? Black tights in the fall/winter will be fine, but the rest of the year I think I'll have to wear pants. I cannot express my level of hatred for pants. Oh well. What I really am is a poor mama's boy from Sadchester Massachusetts who had to wear his sister's hand-me-down corduroys.francesfarmer wrote:Black tights in the fall/winter will be fine, but the rest of the year I think I'll have to wear pants. I've tried to embrace pant suits to avoid stockings. Hillary 2016.

I just... hate pants. Like, great idea, lady-pants-inventor, let's take some unforgiving poly-blend fabric and cinch it around the widest part of me. S-E-X-Y. If you can't tell from that comment, my physique is similar to that of my avatar.ph5354a wrote:What I really am is a poor mama's boy from Sadchester Massachusetts who had to wear his sister's hand-me-down corduroys.francesfarmer wrote:Black tights in the fall/winter will be fine, but the rest of the year I think I'll have to wear pants. I own a skirt suit from banana republic that I used for mock trial, but I'm pretty sure it's on the cheaper side so I guess I should probably invest in another.... sigh.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Cross posted from nyu thread in case anyone knows of a place in between both schools.
Hey everyone,
I'll be at NYU next year. I'm from the midwest so not too experienced with NYC housing etc. Looking to pay anywhere under 1500 or so, the cheaper the better as long as living conditions aren't terrible. I'm okay being a little bit away from the school but don't want to be really far. If anyone is looking for a roommate at their place or wants to join forces to find a place, let me know.
