Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
Yeah I got the same e-mail. Really helpful!
Somewhere in the C/O 2016 thread, an alum of the RTK program said the experience is very different because although many questions are expected ('How would people describe you in one word?' or 'Tell us about a time you failed and became awesome as a result'), they are coming from a panel of 6-7.
I don't know about you guys, but I've never been in a situation where questions can jump topics/subjects/askers every 2 minutes. The individual from last year's thread said to "have your pitch down solid". He/She practiced with friends beforehand, having them pepper them with questions about their app/essay/CV.
Gottago, I know you might be considering PI seriously and that's great that you were invited, but many people might be considered as alternates or might still be waiting for response on their application who would go to interview with the idea of enrolling and working PI for 10, 20, 40 years. I'm guessing I would hate to have been left out of an opportunity because someone was using that interview spot to 'practice being interested in something'...

I second what kkdk said. I think I might be one of those alternates, since I still haven't heard anything one way or another. If you are seriously interested in the scholarship, I wouldn't want to discourage you from the opportunity, but if you know for sure you wouldn't take it, I or someone else like me would really like the opportunity.

I think I remember seeing something about how they make a decision 7-10 days after going under final review? Then again, I could be mixing up schools. I'm on day 13. How long should I wait to contact them about it?kathj06 wrote:+1 , Final review since end of January!barrelofmonkeys wrote:You might want to e-mail them.

Admissions told me it actually can take up to two weeks to get an award, so I guess give it a few more days then call?jdapplicant wrote:I think I remember seeing something about how they make a decision 7-10 days after going under final review? Other than completing the Need Access stuff, is there anything else you have to do to be considered for aid?

I've heard of schedules being released for IILJ. Could somebody let me know how we receive those schedules?

if we want to negotiate our scholarship, is there some sort of appeal form to fill out or do we just email the financial aid office? I thought someone had mentioned a form somewhere but I can't seem to find it....
edit: never mind i must be blind, I just saw the "my appeal" link

I'm still waiting to hear their offer, but I'm actually taking it as a positive sign. At least it seems likely that their automatic reaction wasn't to give me nothing, whether or not it'll end up a goose egg after some consideration anyway.Hotfries26 wrote:Admissions told me it actually can take up to two weeks to get an award, so I guess give it a few more days then call?jdapplicant wrote:I think I remember seeing something about how they make a decision 7-10 days after going under final review? This has been mentioned quite a bit. Use the email on the FAAP website (the email that sent you the notification), and ask them to activate the appeal tab.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
So I'm useless at finances and am confused about figuring out COL. Room and Board is listed as $22,396 for 9 months, but is that the max loans you can take out for that part (I'm not looking at paying for tuition)? If one takes a public service job for $5000 a summer, that seems like it would't be enough to live off of and so one would need to borrow more during the school year and stretch it?
These are probably silly questions, but $1,500/month in rent just seems insane to me.
Thanks!

You don't need to pay anywhere near 1500 on rent. Live in BK or even some parts of the city and you can easily live on 750-1000. It won't be the biggest room you'll ever live in, but the commute to NYU will still be relatively quick and painless. Even on campus is 1200.
I'm pretty sure you can take out as much as you'd like, NYU is just doing some basic math so that you get an understanding of what you might take out.

I was looking at on campus housing, where did you find that $1,200 figure?Theopliske8711 wrote:You don't need to pay anywhere near 1500 on rent. The cheapest possible NYU housing goes for $1500/mo.politics89 wrote:I was looking at on campus housing, where did you find that $1,200 figure?Theopliske8711 wrote:You don't need to pay anywhere near 1500 on rent. It's true that living in BK you can spend only 750-1000 in rent. Just be aware, though, that that means a 30 min commute and living with roommates. Neither of those are strange for NYC, but people from other parts of the country might need some adjustment.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
