I'm a little late to the game so apologies if this has already been asked...I'm starting at Michigan this summer after deferring last year. For those of you that are starting in the summer/have talked to summer starters/were a summer starter, what are you doing about housing? I'm debating if it makes more sense to try to sublet a place for 3 months during the summer semester and then move into the Lawyer's Club, or if I should just find a place with a lease starting in May that I can stay in the full year.

Congrats to all the new admits! Go Blue!
I'm a summer starter too, and I'm planning on subletting a place over the summer and then living in the lawyer's quad for the rest of the year.

From looking at last year's thread, it seems like a lot of current students post on TLS about subletting their places during the summer (maybe starting around March or so but there have already been a couple).

It'll say on your pages of the accepted students website, under personal award info. Eg, mine says "Admit term: Spring/Summer 2014"

Re: summer housing, it's easy to find cheap sublets near the law quad, since there's so much student housing around there - no guarantee on quality, obviously, but there's lots of options. If you look a little further out (think a 10-15 minute walk) you should be able to find may leases as well. In my experience as an undergrad, the housing that's closer in to the main campus goes too quickly to think that any of us law students will nab it. I guess what i'm trying to say is it's really up to you/your housing goals. I have no desire to live in the lawyers club, so I'll look for leases that start in may. I'm sure other Ann Arborites will chime in soon and offer their thoughts on this too. :)
Thanks for the help! Looks like I'm starting in the Fall!

Hey guys, question:

I was accepted on 12/10 and the Personal Award Info page says "zero awards found". It's been over a month and no awards. Does this mean I will not be receiving a merit grant? Or am I being impatient?
Thank you! 8)

We're supposed to know by the end of January. For those who have been accepted so far, Dean Zearfoss said the majority of awards would be made in mid January and should be completed by the end of January...so no need to worry until the end of January!

Hey y'all. Current 1L here. Congrats on being accepted. You will love it here. I will be subleasing my apartment in A2 this summer and one of you summer starters should jump on it. It is fully furnished, it includes free parking & on-site laundry, and it is a 7 minute walk to the law school. Rent is regularly $750 a month but I am willing to accept $500/month and I will take care of the rest. It also has blazing fast internet, cable and other sweet things. It is a 2 bedroom and my roommate may not even be here over the summer so you may just have the whole place to yourself.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested. Or if you have ANY questions about your 1L year, application process, etc. etc.

For those of you who have received scholarship info, does it correlate pretty well with last year's data on mylsn? Reverse splitter (>25 LSAT and >75 GPA) so I didn't anticipate getting much but saw some very intriguing numbers on mylsn.

Mine was higher than anything I'm seeing in my numbers range on mylsn.

Congrats! Obviously it's more than just about the numbers but speculation is fun.

Did anyone have a Darrow interview yet? I have mine coming up, but have no idea what to expect since this is the first year they're doing them.

Hi guys,

First - Congratulations to all of you on your acceptances to Michigan! I hope many of you will be making it out to one of the two scheduled Accepted Students Weekends.

Also, for those of you that decide to join us in the fall, I encourage you to consider applying for housing with the Phid House. Here are some reasons why Phid is the perfect place to live:

1. Probably the cheapest rent on campus. Our tenants are paying $450 per month this year, and board members get a discount from $50-100 a month on rent.

2. Super close to the law school. You can seriously wake up 6 minutes before your class starts and still make it in on time. However, it's probably a good idea to give yourself more time so that you can shower.

3. The community. One of the best things about Phid is that it gives new 1Ls immediate access to a diverse community of law students. We're co-ed, and our membership is split evenly between 1Ls, 2Ls and 3Ls. The upperclassmen are great for coaching you on professors, digging up outlines, and are altogether just awesome people. You won't find this with any other living arrangement on campus.

Check out our website at http://www.phidhouse.org/. We look forward to seeing you all in Ann Arbor!
