All of you are making me question my beliefs. I think I will reread POA. I was in middle school when I read it. Maybe it went over my head.

nope.FuriousDuck wrote:I think Sorcerer's/Philosopher's stone is getting hurt by it's age. It was pretty good. Anyone want to post their order? I'd say from 6,4,1,3,2,7,5, from best to worst.

Chamber of Secrets is being way overvalued right now.

Re: TLS Class of 2017
Azkabahn is winning because it had the coolest cover, cover art being the only way to make distinctions in their individual quality after reading them over 10 years ago.
Chamber of Secrets had a big talking snake, it deserves some credit.
The 4th one was set up like a big hard-boiled mystery, but ended by having everything explained by a confusing flurry of magical spells that I don't remember being set up at all.
I didn't read any of the others, so the one with the gryphon on the cover wins.

I did read the first one, I guess I should have mentioned it before saying I didn't read any of the others.
That's +1 dummheits to me.

Re: TLS Class of 2017
I can't vote Goblet of Fire in good conscience because there's a huge logical flaw. The entire book is designed to get Harry to touch the Triwizard trophy, which was only turned into a portkey right before the maze event. But really, Moody Crouch could have turned like a quill, Harry's broom, or I dunno, Cho Chang into a portkey, gotten Harry to touch them, and he could have saved the massive trouble/risk in duping the Goblet to involve Harry in the Tournament in the first place.

Re: TLS Class of 2017
Why so much love for Azkaban? I thought it was the stupidest of the entire series. Pettigrew's escape only just redeems this book and even that could not be established until Goblet of Fire. Sirius is the most overrated character in the Potter-verse. His overhyped role is even more ridiculous than Ginny's. Shoot, the fact that Dumbledore claimed he'd witnessed the climactic dementor attack to see what Harry was made of further shows how badly JK tried to make this book more relevant even years down the line. (And, in my opinion, it was a poor move since it made Dumbledore's character look uncharacteristically heartless.) I contend that even Chamber was better because of the Horcrux, basilisk, and Dobby.

Re: TLS Class of 2017
whoa so sad I've been missing this discussion. The obvious first choice was HBP, but all the love for POA got me thinking. POA is actually probably one of my least favorite movies (Lupin's werewolf form looks real dumb imo and the director was different for that one I think) but the book is one of the best. Still picked HBP though
OOTP could have been up there but loses because of how dang angsty Harry was in that book.
6, 3, 1, 4, 7, 2, 5
7 would've been higher if not for the epilogue.

I can roll with this ranking.OliveBC wrote:6, 3, 1, 4, 7, 2, 5
.
P.S. it is incredible how random the quality of the movies compared to the source book is for this series. 6 and 3 were pretty poorly done. But 5 was a solid movie, probably because it had the magic of editing.
