I think there is a way to appeal, but I heard unless something significantly changes in your financial picture, chances are it won't make much a difference. I personally had a lot of special circumstances, and HLS took this into account at least a bit. If you get a chance to go up to campus, def. do it and meet with the SFS office, they are very helpful.dobryden wrote:Yep, and mine was really disappointing. Average indebtedness for HLS graduates in 2013 = $123,673, and 79% with debt.
This number seems surprisingly low to me. Everybody always throws around doom and gloom numbers like $260k. Are these numbers just horribly skewed by trust-fund babies whose parents decided to make them take out only a little bit of debt ($15,000 or something), but not pay for the whole thing like the other 21% without debt?
Am I missing something?

Probably. I'd be so happy to graduate from HLS with 125K in debt hahahahsjgonzalez3 wrote:http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... ngs/page+3

Those who were disappointed with their financial aid package - any reason why you think it came in lower than expected/hoped? I'm a bit worried that the expected contribution from my parents will result in me getting less aid, which is a bummer since they're not contributing at all.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
I also had a great time at ASW, and one thing that really resonated for me was the large class size of HLS. One point the school pushed this weekend is that with the class size at Harvard, there's going to be a critical mass of individuals for anything. One major worry I had about going to law school in general was not getting any empathy from others regarding my motivations to go to law school, given I don't plan on practicing law. However, with such a large class size, I easily found a group of people who shared similar post-UG experiences as me and had similar motivations for attending law school. I take that it's not too uncommon for an HLS student to not want to practice law because speaking to current students and professors about it, they all seemed really cool with it too.chneyo wrote: Excellent. Haha.
But srsly, the size gives you the opportunity to get involved in/learn about so many different areas of the law. The student body is A+. It's located right there with HC, HBS, HKS, etc. etc., so you have the opportunity to mingle with the quote-unquote brightest minds across fields. I think that's the most attractive aspect to me. YLS doesn't have that in SOM or the Jackson Institute. They're both fine, but they're not Harvard quality. And Stanford is in California. Ick.
ETA: Also, access to the Harvard alumn network (Harvard Club of NYC, anyone?). Sure, some might not value this... but it's a real consideration for me.

Just a random thing:
--ImageRemoved--
The "Yiss" and "idk club" have same number of votes now. Wonder how many changes were made due to the ASW, and what it'll be like after the April one.
