You could always fake everyone out, "Dean Minow, what is justice..................................................... Kagan's frequency in visiting campus?"

Also, this whole "gunner" term. I never encountered this meaning for the word until I started looking at law schools. Is "gunner" a law school exclusive word or is it what all the cool kids are saying these days? From my understanding, it basically refers to socially inept egomaniacs who compulsively engage in annoying behaviors that are transparent attempts to impress others with their brilliance / achievements / work ethic. Yes? Or am I missing something?

Well, apparently they're at the Medical School too! Damn, I have to make sure to avoid them as I skulk the HMS grounds searching for my eventual neurosurgeon spouse.
That's some good shit

Sorry if this was discussed in an earlier post, but I'm curious what's the biggest thing people love about HLS?

Lol'd irl. This was the main point of a current student's argument for why I should attend HLS over other T14s for free. Even it that is true, there are probably better features of HLS that the current students should highlight...

Excellent. Haha.

But srsly, the size gives you the opportunity to get involved in/learn about so many different areas of the law. The student body is A+. It's located right there with HC, HBS, HKS, etc. etc., so you have the opportunity to mingle with the quote-unquote brightest minds across fields. I think that's the most attractive aspect to me. YLS doesn't have that in SOM or the Jackson Institute. They're both fine, but they're not Harvard quality. And Stanford is in California. Ick.

ETA: Also, access to the Harvard alumn network (Harvard Club of NYC, anyone?). Sure, some might not value this... but it's a real consideration for me.
Okay but Yale Club of NYC is purty sweet too. Every time I cross it I die a little inside. *flashbacks to soul crushing email from YLSCraig*

Pretty sure I'm not allowed in the Yale Club even without the soul crushing YLSCraig email. The first (and only) time I've been there, I went with a family friend who proceeded to get so drunk that he fell ALL THE WAY DOWN the big beautiful staircase in the main hall. Andddd the security guys definitely got our names on the way out, lol.

To fuel the discussion here are some excerpts from a couple e-mails I exchanged with HLS grads, not all of the info separates Harvard from Yale/Stanford, but a good look at advantage of Harvard over the rest of the T14. I may have shared some of this before, sorry if it is redundant.
From what I hear from friends of mine at other top 10 schools, the competition there is a bit heavy because everyone is trying to shine. The nice thing at HLS, SLS, and YLS is that you're sort of set once you get in, and most people who I know, including myself, were just shocked to actually be going to HLS that there wasn't as much competition.
Harvard's grading policy is great. While it can be annoying when you work your butt off and get a P, knowing you were probably on the cusp for an H, overall it's way less stressful than normal letter grades.
If you go to Harvard you should not have a hard time getting a Big Law job. Basically everyone gets one, and the only way to not would be to do absolutely terribly in all of your classes, two semesters in a row. A friend of mine got all Ps her first semester but four H's her second and she was fine; so really, two semesters of bad grades would be the only thing to hurt you. And even then, I have at least two friends who I know had all Ps or maybe one H all year and still got Big Law jobs.
Most professors don't give out all the LPs they can, and some refuse to give out LPs unless you seriously put in no effort and hand in a terrible exam. Of course, there are some rumored to give out all they can, but again it's just a rumor. You can avoid these pretty easily: study. Putting in an average amount of effort should make it so you never get an LP.
I was blown away by how much having a big school (and thus huge alum network) could be a positive rather than a negative. Further, since public interest is always a smaller percentage of each law school, the fact that harvard is large meant that its public interest community was one of the largest, and definitely the best funded, in the country. I seriously think OPIA lives up to what it promises to be. It is up to you to go often enough for them to know you, but if they get to know you, they will do EVERYTHING for you.

Keeping this in mind for April ASW. I've lived in New York City for 5+ years and am basically only capable of powerwalking as fast as possible from location to location.

This is the advice I'm taking from the ASW recaps:

1) Bring a flask.
2) During Dean Minow's Q&A, definitely ask her what justice means. For your fellow TLSers, you will be seen as ironic and labeled a hipster. From everyone else you'll get eye rolls and be labeled a gunner. Then you will finally become that rare breed, the gunner hipster, despised by all mankind. Tangent here: Gunners are basically the hipsters of the law school world, right? We're all kind of gunners (hello, we got into HLS) but we just hate the people who are assholes about it (and we call them gunners) just like everyone who lives in Brooklyn is a hipster, but they reserve the term for people who are assholes about it.
3) If you get drunk enough on Saturday (see note 1), your crippling debt won't seem so bad, mostly because you missed the presentation.
4) If you meet someone this fall and think it might be specs, just ask yourself, Does this person wear glasses? Is he a giant? Is he not consuming alcohol? Does he have a gorgeous wife? If you answer yes to these questions, yes, it is specs.
5) Underground tunnels???? How was this not in our admissions packet? "Maybe you've heard Boston is cold. We at Harvard developed a solution: underground tunnels that ferry you from home (the library) to class and back again. Your 1L year at Harvard, you'll never see daylight, you'll never be cold."
Malleus-don't hate just because you couldn't keep up with these powerwalkers (some of whom aren't even from cities where people walk).

As far as the underground tunnels are concerned, my interviewer actually brought them up during my JS1 (she could probably sense my overwhelming fear of cold weather).

Someone going to the April ASW needs to do this, and someone else needs to film.

Howl was pretty cool and intuitive. The TLSers all were thinking I wonder where we can meet up and sure enough Howl figured out sitting by the fireplace and having everyone meet there was TCR.

Yes, there's a credited fireplace in the student center.

Yep, and mine was really disappointing. Did anyone else get a lot less than they had hoped/needed? Can we appeal the decision?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
