Because it seems really simple but if other people are having trouble with it or find it confusing I feel like I really must be missing something and I don't want to fuck up.

Anybody else having a panic attack about sending in their loan request form? I'm not even paying sticker. TLS, give me strength.

Yeah bro (broette?). Similiar feels here. I keep telling myself that if it doesn't make sense to take out these loans at CLS, it doesn't make sense anywhere. And it surely makes sense somewhere.francesfarmer wrote:Anybody else having a panic attack about sending in their loan request form? I'm not even paying sticker. TLS, give me strength.
You can use an excel spreadsheet to figure out your takehome minus loan payment (there's a function that calculates monthly loan payments), minus NYC rent, minus taxes. It doesn't look too shabby at all--especially if you weren't pulling down a ton of money before law school.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
You're right, and I'm a splitter, and I wouldn't be getting a better deal anywhere else that's remotely comparable, and I already live in NYC and am doing fine on my paltry salary, and I've been having this conversation with myself since I deferred in 2013! I need to bite the bullet.papercut wrote:Yeah bro (broette?). Similiar feels here. I keep telling myself that if it doesn't make sense to take out these loans at CLS, it doesn't make sense anywhere. And yes, I am a bro-ette.

It was especially fun when the entrance counseling suggested I needed to earn a salary of $400K+ to avoid financial hardship while in repayment.drevo wrote:I didn't send it in for a couple days because of basically this. Writing out the dollar amounts for the loan request was unpleasant, and I am not paying sticker either. But you'll be fine. As papercut mentioned, if we're going to take out loans for law school Columbia is about as safe of a bet to repay them as you can get.francesfarmer wrote:Anybody else having a panic attack about sending in their loan request form? low-level nervous breakdown, but no panic attacks yet. about a 3.6 on the EquallyWrong mental stability richter scale.francesfarmer wrote:Anybody else having a panic attack about sending in their loan request form? I'm not even paying sticker. TLS, give me strength.

What do we need to do after signing the MPN? Where is this loan request form? I assume there should be two (one for Stafford, one for grad plus, right?

The loan request form came with your grant/stafford loan email. It's one page.Humbert Humbert wrote:What do we need to do after signing the MPN? Where is this loan request form? I assume there should be two (one for Stafford, one for grad plus, right?

Do we fill out the loan request form each year or are we estimating for all 3 years?

Each year. Don't let it stress you out. I called them a few days ago and they said they would give people a few days after the deadline to get everything in, and if you have documents missing they'll just let you know. But I would still try to get them out today.scoobers wrote:papercut wrote:Lol @ fb thing.scoobers wrote:Catching up

My form came along with my emailed aid offer, but you can also find it on the accepted students site (somewhere...)scoobers wrote:Should I be finding these forms in my inbox because I'm not...

MPN = master promissory note, which is what you fill out on the government student loans site after you finish your online "loan counseling"

done. living off mostly government loans next year, god help me.
thanks to papercut for that list of deadlines...I'm not great with that stuff, probably going to procrastinate a month before doing the Dean's Certification as well.

Haha, yeah that's nice. Hopefully we'll get to take class on the legal ins and outs of faking your own death sometime during 3L.scoobers wrote:
