Where would you prefer to practice, LA or Texas? Do you have ties to either region?
This.
This matters more than ranking when we're dealing with the schools in question. Want to practice in TX; there's your answer. LA? You have it.
Unless you're fairly certain you want to do entertainment law, then I wouldn't make a decision just because it's the most interesting right now.
If you need to, visit both unis and the surrounding cities.
That to be honest is the only thing I do know I'd rather practice in California
Well, then Los Angeles is a great place, and USC is a great school for that. Also, you'll be able to take classes at other schools on campus for your entertainment law emphasis; like at the Cinematic School if you choose to go to CA and practice that.
Just Google "USC entertainment law" and you'll see all if the opportunities.
Out of curiosity, what's your other potential course, if you decide to go to UT? Also, have you visited USC yet?

I haven't visited USC yet, if I go to UT haven't really figured out what I would do there.

So I got USC to increase my scholarship offer from $45k to $60k (over 3 years) by saying that I want to go to USC, but I am still on reserve/hold status for Cornell/Northwestern and I'm waiting to hear back from UCLA. I really do want to go to USC, but I have a feeling that I can get at least $75k from them. If not, Cornell is still one of my top choices. Any thoughts on a second round of negotiations?
I also went ahead and applied to WUSTL and Vanderbilt to see if I can get some scholarship leverage.

It wouldn't hurt to try especially if you can show them some other acceptances.

It's really going to depend on what other schools offer you money. Seems you've already leveraged using your numbers and desire to go to USC.

Your responses favor you choosing USC over UT at this moment. Maybe you've already made your decision and don't know it yet. You still have time to make a wise one.
How are you going about deciding this? My decision making process definitely takes in the facts around me, but in the end I'll admit to going with what people call "gut feelings."
You'll make the right decision.

Mind telling me how long they took to get back to you? Just sent a negotiating email a few days ago

Is USC still a valid choice now that they're in free fall on the rankings (barely on the cusp of being a T20 school, trailing behind WUSTL and Emory)?

Emory is a joke, they hired 20% of their grads and that gave them a massive boost in the rankings. USC has way higher median salary than both and better big law placememt. WUSTL gives great scholarships though. USC>>>WUSTL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>EMORY.
They are benefited from the stupid mistakes USC is making which are that USC does NOT game the median( very low spread between the 25h and 50th) and hires only 5% of its grads. I doubt they will stay higher than USC for more than one or two years especially now that USC will be graduating 20-30 fewer people.

Thanks zman! Makes a lot of sense now.
Do you guys know what accounts for the high mid-career salaries though? Is it mainly because USC is more business/private firm focused, couple with alumni ties in those areas?

I think it's because it use to be a lot more expensive than the UC schools(they are about even now) so therefore those who wanted public law just went to the cheaper UC schools and you had to go after a higher paying job at USC. WE might see more people from USC go into public law because more people are getting huge discounts on tuitions because as you know there is a collapse in apps and of course as mentions UC schools are 45-55 thousand a year.

Brian Leiter said USC was "clearly" under ranked this year. Means nothing- except what Zman said.
Temporary.

Got the cutest travel kit in the mail from USC over the weekend and it made me dread the 5.5-hour flight from New York just a little bit less.
Water-activated tablets that turn into towels? I didn't even know that was a thing.

Not true.
I spoke to people who rejected T-5 schools to come to USC. And personally, though I withdrew before decisons, I likely would have got into a couple of T-14s I applied to, but would have gone with USC.
Not everyone whores their self out to USNWR.

I'd turn down all other offers for USC if they'd get back to me already. USNWR whores can go shut up.
april fools, but I do want to get in at least

Yeah I got that. It makes them sound a little desperate. I wonder if they are worried about losing students due to their drop in USNWR.

Haha nice. I thought it was an interesting move for those to turn down a t5- not gonna lie. But I can still understand other T14 rejections in favor of USC
