Hello all,
I was accepted last cycle, but I opted to defer for a year for personal reasons so I am class of 2017. Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Also, does anyone know if an SA position would count towards the Doctoroff's required "summer business internship"?
I am assuming no, but can anyone confirm?

For some reason I was thinking it was March 1st, but I'm guessing I've mixed that up with some other school.lastsamurai wrote:Yeah I saw this too a bit too late. Understood. Thank you very much for the clarification!Regulus wrote:I asked about that during my interview with them last year, and regretted it immediately based upon their response (I am pretty sure that is one of the major reasons I got rejected). The Doctoroff Program is for people who want to use their JD to do something business-related instead of the run-of-the-mill lawyer stuff. Accordingly, while a position with a company's in-house legal department would count, doing an SA would pretty much defeat the purpose of participating in the program instead of just taking the classes that it offers.Canof09 wrote:Also, does anyone know if an SA position would count towards the Doctoroff's required "summer business internship"?

Basically, there are 2 parts to this program:
First, it provides a limited number of students the opportunity to have an awesome mentor (like Doctoroff or Rubenstein); you will go to work at your mentor's company or a company within their network to gain business experience during your 1L summer.
The second part of the program is available to all law students - there will be a lot more business-related classes offered at the law school which anyone can take regardless of whether they are a "Doctoroff Scholar."
Therefore, if you want to do something strictly law-related during your summer but want to take business courses throughout the year, the feeling I got is that you will be allowed to do so, but not as an official member of this program.

I think it's either Feb 15 OR if you've been admitted after Feb 1, you get two weeks.Nonconsecutive wrote:For some reason I was thinking it was March 1st, but I'm guessing I've mixed that up with some other school.lastsamurai wrote:Yeah I saw this too a bit too late. To the first round folks deliberating on Ruby vs HYS, strongly recommend you pick the latter. Ha!

Not sure if this applies to you guys, but they said that the deadline is Feb 15th unless you got accepted in Feb in which case it's 2 weeks from your acceptancelastsamurai wrote:Yeah I saw this too a bit too late. Re: Chicago Law Class of 2017
I'm going to NYU, Columbia and UChi. Chicago and Columbia provided travel stipends which brought the costs down to only $50 for the two of them. I'm from NY, so I have family to stay with for NYU. As for time, I set my own hours for work, so I've been pushing my 40 hours to the early part of the week and traveling the latter part.t-14orbust wrote:how do you guys find the time/money to go to all these ASWs?
