From other threads it seems you can find free lunch pretty much every weekday for all three years.mylifeis24 wrote:Just an educated guess since they've already won us over.EquallyWrong wrote:going to have to ask who your source was for this.mylifeis24 wrote:that omelette station during ASW will be the last time we ever get free food from Columbia.

Does anyone else plan on getting the meal plan?

I like cafeteria food, but it would kinda suck to be the only law school student there. I don't want to eat alone.

Anyone know why on the housing app, under "Housing Type / Max Rent", there is no option for one bedroom? I am seeing only studio and share, but I listed places with one bedroom options in my preference list.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
It seems that one bedrooms are mostly limited in availability to couples housing, so if you put down that you're looking for single housing, it doesn't show up as an option. Apparently some years they do have a couple of one-bedrooms left over for single people, though, so I'm not sure how distributing those works... I assume they would just give them to people with high Max Rent listed for studios, although I'm just guessing here.pseu wrote:Anyone know why on the housing app, under "Housing Type / Max Rent", there is no option for one bedroom? Do you know if students are allowed to just pay for a meal without getting a meal plan? I have commitment issues.papercut wrote:Does anyone else plan on getting the meal plan?

Also it still comes out to $11-12/meal with a plan, right? It was $6-7 at my undergrad.

I did the math a few weeks ago and I think it came out to 7$ per meal if you get Plan A (14 meals per week plan + some others). 7/meal seems reasonable to me.Balthy wrote:Do you know if students are allowed to just pay for a meal without getting a meal plan? I think you can pay as you go with the "flex" plan: http://dining.columbia.edu/about-flex

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
I don't know anyone who does this. Honestly I wouldn't recommend it: there's so much free food at the law school already (every week day lunch, most nights). I don't see how a meal plan would be efficient in law school at all, and even if your k-jd it's not that hard to seamless or cook.papercut wrote:I did the math a few weeks ago and I think it came out to 7$ per meal if you get Plan A (14 meals per week plan + some others). 7/meal seems reasonable to me.Balthy wrote:Do you know if students are allowed to just pay for a meal without getting a meal plan? I can cook, and often I like cooking, I just hate doing dishes and how much time the whole process takes from shopping to cleaning up. I end up eating out a ton and throwing out a bunch of food I never get around to cooking.
From what I can tell by tracking my expense with Mint, the meal plan should work well for me money wise.

That's all that matters then. Thanks for posting that. I didn't even know we could use a meal plan even if we wanted too.papercut wrote:Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate all the input from current students.mylifeis24 wrote:Ugh Seamless + Loans will be the death of me.jbagelboy wrote:

I feel like now is the time to brush up on cooking skills. Compared to when you're working, I feel like law school will provide more chances than you will likely ever have again until retirement. Given how much free time you will likely have.

lol no, you'll be getting so much free food over the next three years, you'll have to step up your gym time to not gain a law school 15. Orientation and the law firm recruiting season are particularly lucrative, but there's basically free food available at some event (and usually many) every day of the week.mylifeis24 wrote:

Did anyone receive a firstname.lastname@law.columbia.edu email address? I seem to remember reading that this would be the format somewhere (maybe on LawNet). I registered for LionMail and got an email address with my first middle and last initials followed by a random four digit number @columbia.edu.

Can we change it to firstname.lastname@law.columbia.edu?

Incoming students receive a firstname.lastname@law.columbia.edu address that automatically forwards to LionMail. There is no need to configure this address, the address is hardwired to send all mail to your LionMail. Students can lookup their full name email address in LawNet.
ETA: Ahh, I see my error. The firstname.lastname@law.columbia.edu isn't actually your email address. Your uni@columbia.edu is, but if someone emails you at firstname.lastname@law.columbia.edu it sounds like it will automatically forward to your LionMail account.
Lesson Summary
• Students must activate their email accounts
• Your email account is your-uni@columbia.edu
• Students can sign into LionMail by visiting lionmail.columbia.edu
• Incoming students receive a firstname.lastname@law.columbia.edu that automatically forwards to LionMail.
• Firstname.Lastname@law.columbia.edu expire on July 31st of the year you graduate
• LionMail accounts and addresses lasts forever as lifelong alumni email

I still can't setup LawNet. I get the "requested page not found" error.
