Not true.
I spoke to people who rejected T-5 schools to come to USC. And personally, though I withdrew before decisons, I likely would have got into a couple of T-14s I applied to, but would have gone with USC.
Not everyone whores their self out to USNWR.

Law Day should be pretty exciting. Hopefully there will be a way (likely through PM) that we can say high to each other on that day.

I emailed a few weeks ago about how to get a stipend, and they said they are still working on it. Has anyone gotten any stipend info in the past few weeks? Would love to check it outsamoby wrote:It's the first day to book flights if you got a travel stipend for Law Day!

I don't know if there has been any stipend information since the initial email offer to apply for a travel stipend was sent out. Does anyone have any insight on this? I got the email inviting me to apply for the travel stipend program initially on February 11 and was approved on February 19.pixy1900 wrote:I emailed a few weeks ago about how to get a stipend, and they said they are still working on it. This has been discussed in the non-admin created Gould 2017 FB page, if you want to check it out. One student has received a stipend for Law Day, but it seems he may be overseas right now, however that factors into the receipt.
Edit: Spelling

Is it okay for me to post if I haven't totally decided on USC yet? Are you going to kick me out?
Question to Captain Rodeo or others who go to USC, how is the fitness center? This is vital information. How many barbells, squat racks, bumper plates?
Also, I'm an east coast kid and would prefer to take the expo line to campus, if I don't live within walking distance. Feasible? I like the downtown area a lot. My sister lives there and I was able to explore a bit. How much would it cost to live within walking distance of the 7th st. metro center station? A pretty penny, I take it?
Edit: With a roommate. Also, where do people live if they want to be off-campus but walking/biking distance?

Hey srslyp !
So, vital to what? USC's gym, when I was there, went through some renovation- a facelift- to make it look newer & more modern.
I haven't been there in two years. Google USC Lyon Center, check out the images. Here's their homepage: http://sait.usc.edu/Recsports/facilitie ... center-lrc
With that said, the images are deceiving for a couple reasons:
(1) There are 2 floors to the gym, not only do the pictures not show that, but they do not even show the floor in its entirety, just parts of it.
(2) The USC Health Science Campus's gym will also populate in the image search. This is a campus that is actually miles (10?) away from the main USC campus.
Also, I lift. Heck, I work at a gym right now. USC definitely needs to update and add more equipment to the gym. With that said, as long as you're not coming in during gym rush hours (just like any other gym), you'll get all your equipment in the order and for however long you want it.
Squat racks... There are 2 or 3- when I was there last. More than enough benches and plates, from my experience. Bottom floor is more focused on free weights, but still has some machines, cable machine station (with pull up bar, pulley locations, etc...) and treadmills. Go in the back and there are racket ball courts, a large space to do abs... And some other things I don't remember. Upper floor has basketball court, lots of machines and cardio and another place to do abs (or stretch, or whatever you want to use the space for).
There are also lockers and you can use the pools and jacuzzis. There are showers and soap is provided. I HTH
As far as the other questions go... I'd browse this thread, look at past thread from 2016, 2015, classes, etc... But to make it quick:
If you get a room by yourself from some random who renting one- the cheapest would be around $500
You could get a place in, let's say, Culver City, and split rent between a group of people - probably your cheapest bet (besides getting some random room in a random place) and you can take the metro right to the law school from there.
Besides that- for downtown and around USC- I'd say $500-$1200 EACH for you and your roommates- depending on if you're downtown or around campus and how many people you're with. I shared a room, in an apt by USC- we paid $500 each- and roomed with 4 other guys paying around the same for each room. I paid an extra $100 for parking. One room, in one apt was $1000. However, the place was huge, so that was an offset.
Yea All Right, a USC student will know more about this than me. I may be wrong on some parts, been a while.
[EDIT] NOTE: I did this on my iphone. So sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes.

Re: USC GOULD CLASS OF 2017
Great! Thanks for the info! Sounds like pretty much any other gym, which is fine by me. All I need is free weights and a mat to do ab stuff. Also, basketball courts are nice. Just one?
It's vital to me! Haha. I like to lift, and it will be especially vital for me when I'm spending all my other time studying.
Thanks for the info on apartments also. $500 a person? That's crazy cheap. But then again I'm in DC right now which is pretty ridiculous in most places. I'll be looking more seriously when I figure out for sure where I'm going. USC is looking strong right now though!
Thanks for the info, and I'll definitely pick your brain as deposit date gets closer. Looking to go to Law Day too. Ah, know how to go about getting a travel stipend? Just email admissions?
Edit: If I do go, I will be forming a house/fraternity called the bros who are not douchebags fraternity. It will be composed of normal people doing normal things who happen to want to do law.

My last semester there I had a place a little further from campus-
1 room in a home- for $500. Hard to find, but possible.
I'd call or email them about the stipend for Law Day

Re: USC GOULD CLASS OF 2017
There are 3 basketball courts on the upstairs level of the Lyon Center. People are always looking to get pick-up games going. Can get pretty busy depending on when you go, especially at night and on Friday afternoons (and during the weeknights when one court is allocated to volleyball/badminton).
And yes you guessed it, downtown LA will be pretty expensive if you want to live in a nice apartment. In terms of housing near campus, there is the Terrace apartment complex about two blocks north of campus which is populated mostly by law students and other grad students. Right across the street from the law school are the new and very nice Icon Plaza apartments and the unfurnished but also nice Tuscany apartments. About a mile up Figueroa there is a new luxury complex called Lorenzo which gives you downtown-type amenities for a reasonable price if you have roommates. If you want to get a house, those can be found north and west of campus (I recommend the north side). From what I have heard, gathering up 6-8 people to live together in a house can be very economical.
Edit: I just named some of the big, more expensive housing companies that popped up in my head, there are actually a lot of cheaper options around USC which give you great value if you're willing to look.

So I've narrowed my 2 choices down to usc and ut it would be similar prices to attend both. I know ut is the slightly better school overall and it would be a tad bit cheaper however entertainment law and chance to live in la seems to be to be the most interesting as of right now. Struggling mightily with this decision any help would be appreciated.

This.
This matters more than ranking when we're dealing with the schools in question. Want to practice in TX; there's your answer. LA? You have it.
Unless you're fairly certain you want to do entertainment law, then I wouldn't make a decision just because it's the most interesting right now.
If you need to, visit both unis and the surrounding cities.

Re: USC GOULD CLASS OF 2017
If price is near equal as you said and you are sure about preferring to work in California, then USC is a good school for you; the same goes for UT if you want to stay in Texas. USC and UT are both very regional schools, so make your choice knowing that you will probably end up working near your school and not somewhere else.
Also, entertainment law is tough to get into without connections, so be open to other fields of law in case that does not pan out.
