HLS - How do judges generally view DSs in non-doctrinal courses?
Estimated top 25-10% after 1L, but GPA is inflated from DSs in non-doctrinals (no blackletter DSs, but mostly Hs). I know DS to P ratio is important, but should I assume these DSs don't count for the ratio and just be grateful for the boost for Latin honors? Obviously every judge is different, but would appreciate any insight into how judges generally feel about non-blackletter DSs. Thanks!

All else being equal, a DS in a doctrinal is better than in a non-doctrinal, and a DS in a non-doctrinal is better than an H in a non-doctrinal. There isn't a magic formula here. The rough DS to P ratio judges use would generally not exclude non-doctrinals. It sounds like you are on track to be a competitive but not top top clerkship applicant pending your 2L grades.
