2024 Clerkship Hiring Movement
Just getting this started moving into next week! When do judges typically extend interview invites for DDC/SDNY?

Any news of movement for those of us swimming in a sea of silence? (Also interested in the answer to OP's DDC/SDNY question.)Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 10:06 pmJust getting this started moving into next week! When do judges typically extend interview invites for DDC/SDNY?

Re: 2024 Clerkship Hiring Movement
It depends.
I did not get any last summer, but got several in the fall.
So just because you do not get any calls tomorrow does not mean you will not get a clerkship.
That being said, I know another judge in one of those districts who already hired their entire class of clerks, including rising 3Ls, last week ahead of the plan.

Re: 2024 Clerkship Hiring Movement
Last year plenty of DDC judges were reaching out within minutes of 12PM on Tuesday (only heard of one reaching out to 2Ls before then, and that was because the judge had extenuating circumstances such that she couldn't interview the week of the plan).

the most selective DDC judges have already interviewed candidates off-plan. you should expect interview invites for on-plan candidates to go out within an hour of the plan opening tomorrow (i.e., after the 24 hour review period has passed from when the plan started on monday) and interviews/offers to be done within 48 hours after that, if that not less.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 10:06 pmJust getting this started moving into next week! Future DDC clerk here. In my experience, the most competitive judges tend to move as soon as the plan permits them to (which would be tomorrow at noon), and tend to make hiring decisions between 24 and 48 hours after that.

For non-DDC/SDNY big-city courts (EDNY/NDCA/NDIL/etc), do calls typically go out on the first day? Or are those slower?

Very judge specific from what I've heard. The general trend seems to be that the more competitive they are, the more quickly they'll move. Good luck tomorrrow everyone.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 7:32 pmFor non-DDC/SDNY big-city courts (EDNY/NDCA/NDIL/etc), do calls typically go out on the first day? Or are those slower?

Incoming SDNY clerk
EDNY is very similar to SDNY in many respects. Many judges move on plan day. Some don’t.
The most competitive judges — think Oetken, Komittee, Abrams, Subramanian, Furman, Engelmayer — will move very quickly.
Most 2Ls applying to these districts strike out. It’s okay. You’ll be a much more competitive candidate with work experience under your belt.

SDNY clerk here. This tracks for most SDNY judges, although a few stretch the interview process out into the following week.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 4:30 pmFuture DDC clerk here. Re: 2024 Clerkship Hiring Movement
Does anyone know how quickly Judge Owens (CA9) moves? It looks like he plans to conduct interviews today through Thursday. I'm wondering if he schedules interviews ASAP after the plan opens (and if you're SOL if you don't hear from him by EOD or even within a few hours of 9PST/12EST).

Anyone know the timeline for someone applying to a much later term (2027-2028)? I'm assuming that they might be slower to hire, as a rule of thumb?

Re: 2024 Clerkship Hiring Movement
Almost certainly. I was hired for a 2026-2027 clerkship back in February, and my judge seemed to think he was rushing it. Definitely some people are being hired for 2027-2028 now, but it's a tiny portion of even the elite COA world and the judges won't feel much time pressure.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 1:24 pmAnyone know the timeline for someone applying to a much later term (2027-2028)?
